Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Trusted Review by Technician in 2026

The Frigidaire EFIC239 is certainly for people who don’t want to afford the Frigidaire Gallery EFIC240, but is worth buying over the Frigidaire Gallery EFIC201? We shall see, in the Frigidaire EFIC239 review.

In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:

  • I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
  • I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
  • I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

Frigidaire EFIC239 review

PROS

  • Good durability

CONS

  • Lacks self-cleaning feature
  • A bit more expensive
  • Noisy

Frigidaire has sold more than a century’s worth of refrigeration products. It was impressive. We should see whether the Frigidaire EFIC239 can keep up with its name.

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Price

  • Available to buy now
  • Starts at $199

Frigidaire’s EFIC239 was launched in 2022. The machine is primarily available through Amazon and major retailers in one main variant – stainless metallic finish – priced at around $199, meaning it is very much likely at the same price as the Frigidaire EFIC201.

It is the primary countertop nugget ice maker that Frigidaire wants to compete against the flush of new Chinese ice makers like the Euhomy IM-12 or Silonn SLIM42. So, what is the selling point to buy this Frigidaire EFIC239?

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Design

  • Front control board
  • Bigger window lid

When I first unboxed the machine and set it on the counter, it feel very different from all the Frigidaire Gallery series. It looks more simple, and you can think of the Frigidaire EFIC239 like a normal countertop bullet ice maker – for example, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS, Frigidaire EFIC128 or Frigidaire EFIC121.

The Frigidaire EFIC239 has a cleaner and more refined profile when I compare it with the Euhomy IM-12 or Silonn SLIM17 that you’ve already known from my other reviews. One can argue that there wasn’t anything wrong with the design so they didn’t overhaul it, but using the same design language again is a bit of a bummer.

The outer shell of the machine and the inner components like the pull-out tray are plastic, accented by an LED indicator strip. The machine is 9.4 inches wide and stands 15.3 inches tall. The Frigidaire EFIC239 has got some heft to it which makes it feel sturdy. The top-fill reservoir cap is easy to open and close, which is nice.

The biggest difference, however, comes when you look at the front panel of the Frigidaire EFIC239. Gone are the top control panel, saving more spaces for the bigger window lid. It is suitable to place the Frigidaire EFIC239 directly on countertop.

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Build

  • Frigidaire has better durability

The Frigidaire EFIC239 comes equipped with a stainless plastic exterior, a top-fill water reservoir, and a pull-out ice basket that holds up to 3 lbs. The exterior finish is one of the most predominant changes there is in this version.

In my testing, I found the exterior to be clean and attractive with a professional finish. It is a bit on the bulkier side of things but that is very negligible and users won’t face any problems.

A Frigidaire ice maker is always the best bet for long durability, you can trust my tinker’s instinct.

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Performance

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Capacity

  • Produces up to 44 lbs of ice daily
  • Internal storage: 3 pounds

The Frigidaire EFIC239 uses the same compressor system as its predecessor. While Frigidaire has already released the Frigidaire Gallery EFIC255 which includes auto self-cleaning, the company decided to stick with their dependable base R600a refrigerant system.

The compressor is backed by a 3-lb ice bin and a top-fill reservoir that cycles meltwater back into production automatically. The Frigidaire EFIC239 was able to handle kitchen gatherings, office use, weekend tailgates, and camping trips without any production jitters. Though peak summer use does have some occasional production slowdowns when the ambient temperature climbs.

First batch comes after 15 minutes – this isn’t the fastest countertop nugget ice maker in the world. However, the slow start means the ice maker is more durable.

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Ice Quality

  • Nugget ice
  • A bit harder, but slower melt rate

Nuggets made by the Frigidaire EFIC239 are really good and satisfying. The ice texture is more or less authentic to the soft, chewable restaurant-style nugget. Actually, it’s a bit harder, however, you will enjoy the cold drinks much longer.

The compact auger mechanism also helps in producing consistent nugget size resulting in more uniform ice. However, ice production when the ambient temperature is high wasn’t as good as expected. Nuggets were softer and lacked firmness, accompanied by a lot of clumping in the bin.

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Energy and Water Consumption

  • High energy consumption

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. Just like its predecessor, the Frigidaire EFIC239 also comes with a power draw of 200 watts. On a single day of continuous use and considering my heavy testing, the machine consumed roughly 2.4 kWh before the water reservoir needed a refill.

For water consumption, I again remind you what I wrote in my article “Does an ice maker use a lot of water?” You need about 15 gallons to produce 100 lbs of ice.

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Noise Level

  • Not quiet operation

The noise produced by the Frigidaire EFIC239 is a fair middle ground – and considering our heavy usage, the machine ran noticeably but not disruptively before settling into its production hum. For a moderate user though, the machine will sit in the background of a kitchen without demanding too much attention.

As far as the loudest phase of operation is concerned, it peaks during the initial compressor kick-on. The noise level is about 55 decibels (dB).

Frigidaire EFIC239 Review: Features

  • Lacks self-cleaning feature
  • Add water alert, ice full notification

One thing I don’t like from the Frigidaire EFIC239: it lacks the necessary self-cleaning feature. The regular maintenance of this machine becomes much harder, and I don’t really want my ice maker to taste strangely.

The control layout is a pretty straightforward system that comes with a really neat set of status indicator lights.

Verdict

To put it bluntly, this isn’t the most reliable ice maker Frigidaire has made, and the dual-function water dispenser doesn’t compensate for the durability shortcomings.
