Silonn SLIM42 Review: Trusted Review by Technician in 2026

With a compact countertop design, efficient nugget ice production and decent daily output, the Silonn SLIM42 offers real value for money. It’s another obvious choice for nugget ice enthusiasts on a budget. Today, let’s check it out in my Silonn SLIM42 review.

In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:

  • I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
  • I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
  • I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

PROS

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Detachable basket is good
  • Budget price

CONS

  • Lacks of color options

Silonn is a relatively new player in the home appliance market, having emerged as a Chinese manufacturer focusing on affordable countertop ice makers. The company operates under the trademark owned by SeaLoon International Group (HongKong) Limited, with the brand validation extending to 2032.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Price

  • Available to buy now
  • Costs $199 in the U.S market

New ice makers are always my pick for today, and even just a new design is a sign of improvement. With a new detachable ice basket, more compact design, the Silonn SLIM42 is a better pick than the previous Silonn SLIM30 or Silonn SLIM17.

Just like the previous year’s Silonn SLIM32, the Silonn SLIM42 targets at the countertop nugget ice market, but it opts for a smaller design and slightly less capacity overall. The Silonn SLIM42 is cheaper at $199, and I believe you can get it at a far cheaper price from my deal.

The Silonn countertop ice maker usually comes in stainless steel or black, but at the moment the Silonn SLIM42 has only one color option. Not really a problem, because the stainless steel version is often deemed as “more premium” for a kitchen appliance.

It is a direct competition against the Frigidaire EFIC201, Euhomy IM-12 and Euhomy IM-13. The Silonn SLIM42 is the most special of them all, due to its design and new launching date. However, it is only available on Amazon.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Durability

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Design

  • Front control board
  • The most compact Silonn nugget ice maker
  • New design

The plastic housing looks and feels decent, and the gray exterior gives way to a white LED indicator panel on the front, which will show you the Silonn SLIM42’s status at a glance. The compact dimensions of 8.9″L x 11.3″D x 12.9″H make it smaller than most nugget ice makers on the market.

It’s not, however, as premium as the GE Opal 2.0 or NewAir nugget ice makers, which boast stainless steel bodies and sleek touchscreen interfaces. The Silonn SLIM42 is still a plastic appliance, with a stainless steel color.

At the back you’ll find the drainage port and ventilation grilles, while the top opens to reveal the ice-making chamber and removable basket. There’s a detachable ice basket with an integrated handle that lifts out cleanly for ice transfer. It is the selling point of the Silonn SLIM42 – one thing that you may miss from a regular countertop nugget ice maker, which usually has larger basket.

On the front panel, there’s a simple button layout with LED indicators using four colors: white for ice making, green for basket full, red for low water, and blue for cleaning mode. The single ICE/CLEAN button handles both normal operation and the self-cleaning cycle.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Build

  • Silonn has decent durability

The Silonn SLIM42 uses plastic construction throughout, from the exterior housing to the ice basket and internal components. There’s no pretense of premium materials here, though the plastic feels reasonably sturdy for daily countertop use.

The removable ice basket is lightweight ABS plastic with a molded handle. It lifts out easily and the handle stays cool during operation, which is a thoughtful design choice. The basket capacity is modest at around 1.5 pounds before the full sensor triggers.

The Silonn SLIM42 does include a one-year manufacturer warranty, which provides some protection against early failures. That’s standard for budget appliances and offers a reasonable safety net for the purchase price.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Performance

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Capacity

  • Produces up to 33 lbs per day
  • Internal storage: 1.5 lbs

The Silonn SLIM42 pairs a 33-pound daily production capacity with a compact ice basket. It feels like enough output for the majority of home use scenarios. Making nugget ice, filling drinks, and restocking the freezer is straightforward, the only time we felt any limitations was during extended parties or gatherings. It’s a little slow to recover after emptying and a little modest on storage capacity.

Our Silonn SLIM42 review unit delivered its first batch in 8 minutes, and we’d definitely say that speed is competitive. We suspect the production delays will be more noticeable if you’re constantly draining the basket, as the machine needs a few minutes between cycles.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Ice Quality

  • Nugget ice
  • Softer than old Silonn nugget ice

The nugget ice from the Silonn SLIM42 is decent, but not quite premium. In optimal conditions, when the machine is running consistently and the water reservoir stays full, it’s possible to produce properly formed nugget ice with that satisfying chewable texture. The off-the-cuff performance, which is how most of us really use our ice makers, shows more variation.

The Silonn SLIM42 creates nugget ice by compacting layers of ice flakes, which is the same fundamental process premium models use. The result is soft, chewable ice that absorbs flavors well and cools drinks effectively without diluting them as quickly as solid cubes.

However, the ice consistency varies depending on ambient temperature and how recently you’ve refilled the water reservoir. Freshly made batches tend to be more uniform, while ice produced after several hours of continuous operation can show slight variations in texture and size.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Energy and Water Consumption

  • Normal water and energy consumption

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The energy consumption of the Silonn SLIM42 is typical for budget nugget ice makers, with a power wattage of 160 watts.

Water consumption is similar to other nugget ice makers from Silonn, about 15 gallons for 100 pounds of ice. When the reservoir runs dry you’ll need to refill it, and there’s no plumbed water line option. Just a few minutes of refilling was enough to get production running again.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Noise Level

  • Not quiet operation

The single compressor produces 47dB during operation according to manufacturer specifications, which puts it roughly on par with a quiet conversation or light rainfall. That’s typical for this category and won’t disturb most households during normal use.

During our testing, I found the noise level to be noticeable but not intrusive. The compressor cycles on and off as needed, creating brief periods of mechanical hum followed by quieter intervals. The ice-dropping sound when nuggets fall into the basket is audible but not jarring.

Silonn SLIM42 Review: Features

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Add water alert, ice full notification

The Silonn SLIM42 keeps its feature set deliberately streamlined, which is exactly what you’d expect at this price point. There’s no smartphone connectivity, no touch screen interface, and no side water tank for extended operation.

What you do get is a self-cleaning function that activates by holding the ICE/CLEAN button for 5 seconds. The machine runs a 15-minute cleaning cycle using water and produces blue LED indicators during the process. This feature works as advertised and simplifies maintenance compared to manual cleaning.

The four-color LED indicator system provides clear status updates: white light during ice production, green when the basket is full, red for low water, and blue during cleaning mode. It’s intuitive enough that you won’t need to consult the manual after initial setup.

The detachable ice basket with integrated handle is another practical feature. Unlike some budget models that require scooping ice out awkwardly, the Silonn SLIM42 lets you lift the entire basket and carry it where needed. The handle stays cool during operation.

Verdict

At least the Silonn SLIM42 makes a difference for its design – with the detachable basket. Sometimes, just a minor upgrade is why you should buy the ice maker.
