The countertop ice maker market has long been dominated by established American brands like Frigidaire and Igloo, but Silonn – a Hong Kong electronics manufacturer – has been steadily gaining ground on Amazon with aggressively priced alternatives. Naturally, this got users excited about whether a budget brand could actually compete with the legacy players.

Launched in late 2024, the Silonn SLIM27 is available in black and comes in a single configuration. It is priced at approximately $79.99 on Amazon, though I’ve seen it fluctuate between $70-$90 depending on promotions and availability.

It has the same price with the Silonn SLIM21 and the Silonn SLIM09, which are all newer variants of the original Silonn SLIM01. At this price point, the Silonn SLIM27 destroys the competition from the Euhomy IM-06 and the Frigidaire EFIC121. Its features are the same as what I considered the best budget ice maker – the Igloo ICEB26HN, while costing $10 less.

Silonn SLIM27 Review: Design

• Has a convenient handle

Silonn admits that premium build materials haven’t been a big priority for them historically, but the SLIM27 shows they’re making some effort. For a budget ice maker, it’s done a decent job at creating a machine that is functional, compact, and unassuming – though don’t expect premium finishes.

It comes in black with a matte finish that is less prone to fingerprints compared to glossy alternatives. The transparent lid provides visibility into the ice-making process, though the plastic quality is noticeably thinner than what you’d find on, for example, the Frigidaire EFIC189 or NewAir AI-100.

There are simple controls running across the top which keep things straightforward, while the transparent window gives it some character. What I didn’t like was the overall plastic construction which really positions this firmly in the budget category.

The ice basket is almost flush with the ice maker’s storage area. There’s subtle LED indicator lighting that shows when water is low or ice is full, and it works without being distracting.

The best design choice is the compact footprint, measuring approximately 8.9 x 11.8 x 12.2 inches. Apparently ideal for apartments and RVs, the Silonn SLIM27 has dimensions that allow it to fit on most counters without dominating the space. It might seem like a small consideration but goes a long way in making it more practical.

Silonn SLIM27 Review: Build

• Silonn has decent durability

In the past, Silonn has focused on value over premium materials, and that philosophy continues here. The Silonn SLIM27 comes with a fully plastic housing using food-grade polypropylene, with no stainless steel components in the exterior construction. It’s a very practical approach but one that won’t appeal to those wanting a more premium aesthetic.

My experience tells me that this is a decent ice maker, at the same league as Euhomy, but not as good as Frigidaire and Igloo. Based on Amazon reviews, the Silonn countertop ice maker appears to be a solid performer. With such a large number of verified reviews and consistently positive ratings, the Silonn SLIM27 proves itself as a reliable and well-built appliance that most buyers are satisfied with.

Silonn SLIM27 Review: Capacity

• Produces up to 26 lbs of ice daily
• Internal storage: 1.3 lbs

The Silonn SLIM27 goes modest here with its 26 pounds per day claim and 6-minute first batch timing. It uses a standard 2-liter water reservoir paired with a 1.3-pound storage basket and bullet ice production technology.

Expectedly, it performs reasonably well for most daily use scenarios. Things get interesting when you push it to sustained production though. The advertised 26 pounds daily capacity is achievable only if you’re constantly emptying the basket and transferring ice to a freezer.

Silonn claims the first batch arrives in 6 minutes, and in my testing, this proved accurate. In real-world usage, I found the machine to produce around 18-20 pounds over 24 hours with periodic emptying, that’s about 75% of the claimed capacity. Moreover, ambient temperature affects output significantly.

Silonn SLIM27 Review: Ice Quality

The Silonn SLIM27 produces standard hollow bullet-shaped ice, with the ice maker offering two size options controlled via a simple button toggle. This is typical for the category, and I don’t really find it any different from other Silonn countertop ice makers.

The small bullets measure roughly 0.7 inches in diameter, adequate for sodas and iced coffee. The large setting reaches about 1 inch, working well enough for cocktails. However, the ice clarity is notably cloudy, as expected with this type of rapid freezing process.

This provides adequate efficiency for the budget segment, though you won’t find Energy Star certification at this price point.

Water consumption proves straightforward with the 2-liter reservoir. The machine recycles melted ice water, but you’ll need fresh water for hygiene. Producing 100 pounds of ice requires approximately 12 gallons of water input, costing about $0.06 at typical municipal water rates, essentially negligible compared to energy costs.

During operation, the Silonn SLIM27 produces noise levels around 40-45dB based on my measurements, slightly louder than the claimed 35dB but not unreasonably so. This sits in the range of a typical refrigerator compressor, audible but not intrusive in most kitchen environments.

The noise consists of the compressor’s steady hum, the water pump’s gentle circulation, and the ice-drop clatter when bullets fall into the basket every 6-8 minutes. This final sound creates the loudest moment, though it remains well below conversational volume (60dB).

Silonn SLIM27 Review: Features

The control system of the Silonn SLIM27 is straightforward. You get two ice size selections via a button toggle, with an LED indicator showing which size is active. There’s no timer function or scheduling capability, keeping operation simple and manual.

Self-cleaning is the machine’s most valuable feature beyond basic ice production. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to initiate a 30-minute automated cycle that circulates water through all components. After completion, simply drain the reservoir and rinse. This automated approach reduces maintenance hassle, though you’ll still need periodic manual descaling.

Two indicator lights handle basic alerts – “Add Water” and “Ice Full” – working reliably with only occasional false triggers if the unit is moved while running. The ice scoop includes a storage clip on the basket handle, a simple but appreciated touch.
