If you’re looking for a smart countertop ice maker at this price range, the Silonn SLIM22 fits the bill. However, it’s a disappointing ever that seems oddly unsupported by Silonn. Why? Find out in my newest Silonn SLIM22 review.
In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:
- I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
- I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
- I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

PROS
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Convenient handle
CONS
- Mixed durability
- Not that good pricing
Silonn is a Hong Kong-based electronics manufacturer specializing in countertop appliances and water purification systems. The company emerged in the early 2010s as part of China’s manufacturing expansion into Western consumer markets, establishing itself primarily through online retail channels rather than traditional brick-and-mortar distribution.
Silonn SLIM22 Review: Price
- Available to buy now
- Costs $109 in the U.S market
It seems like there are a bazillion countertop ice makers on the market, which means any machine with a brand new feature seems like a colossal improvement. The latest of these big steps forward was the ‘app-controlled’ smart ice maker trend. Now splashing down is Silonn’s SLIM22, with app features intended to be less alarming than those on competitor smart models – though whether you need an app to control a countertop appliance remains questionable.
The Silonn SLIM22 currently retails for approximately $109 on Amazon, which places it in an uncomfortable middle ground. Standard non-smart Silonn ice makers, for example the Silonn SLIM21 before it and the Silonn SLIM09 sell for around $69, meaning you’re paying $40 extra purely for Wi-Fi connectivity and app control. By comparison, the smart Euhomy IM-01 costs $119, and I always tell my audiences that it’s a failure.
The problem is that at this price range, you can expect an ice maker with larger storage, or making different ice type than the typical bullet ice. The pricing makes sense only if you genuinely value automation and scheduling. Still, it’s your decision whether to buy the Silonn SLIM22 or not. Remember that Silonn hide the appliance deep in the product page of the Silonn SLIM01.

Silonn SLIM22 Review: Durability
Silonn SLIM22 Review: Design
- Top control board
- Has a convenient handle
At first glance, you might mistake the Silonn SLIM22 for any other slightly chunkier countertop ice maker with a bright viewing window and Silonn’s standard user interface. It measures 11.6 x 8.9 x 12.8 inches, which is just marginally smaller than the Frigidaire EFIC189, and it is a good model designed for RV use.
The Silonn SLIM22 also feels a bit hefty, with a weight of approximately 18 pounds – two pounds heavier than budget models that strip out unnecessary components. Still, it is lighter than a lot of Frigidaire countertop ice makers out there, with the stainless steel exterior.
In terms of design, the Silonn SLIM22 closely matches the Silonn SLIM01, except that the control panel includes Wi-Fi connectivity indicators. Each has the same basic layout – power button, size selector, and cleaning function – but on closer inspection, you’ll see the Silonn SLIM22 adds LED indicators for network connection status that serve little practical purpose beyond confirming you’ve successfully completed an unnecessary setup process.
At the moment, you have only the standard black version of this Silonn SLIM22, unlike its brothers with many different options to choose.

Silonn SLIM22 Review: Build
- Silonn has decent durability
The Silonn SLIM22 employs the standard construction materials for this price category – plastic housing. The external plastic feels adequate but unremarkable, producing a solid thunk when tapped rather than the hollow echo of bargain-basement models. Internal components include stainless steel ice-making rods and what appears to be a decent-quality water pump, though only time reveals true longevity.
My experience tells me that this is a decent ice maker, at the same league as Euhomy, but not as good as Frigidaire and Igloo. After all, it’s the most affordable smart countertop ice maker in the world, so you need to sacrifice somewhere.

Silonn SLIM22 Review: Performance
Silonn SLIM22 Review: Capacity
- Produces up to 26 lbs of ice daily
- Internal storage: 1.2 lbs
The Silonn SLIM22 advertises 26 pounds of daily ice production, matching virtually every competitor in this size category. Real-world testing delivered 18-22 pounds per day depending on ambient temperature – respectable performance that aligns with category standards. The first batch arrives in 8 minutes from cold start, slightly slower than the advertised 6 minutes.
Production cycles consistently deliver 9 cubes every 6-7 minutes once the compressor reaches operating temperature. The storage bin holds approximately 1.5 pounds before triggering the ice full sensor, requiring regular basket emptying during continuous operation. This cycle-based production means you’re managing ice transfer rather than enjoying true hands-free operation, regardless of what the app promises.

Silonn SLIM22 Review: Ice Quality
- Bullet ice
- A bit softer, cloudy
To be fair, bullet ice from the Silonn SLIM22 looks and performs identically to bullet ice from every other machine in this category. The cylindrical cubes measure approximately 0.8 inches diameter and 1.1 inches length, with the characteristic hollow center that defines this ice type. About 85% of cubes emerge properly formed, with the remaining 15% showing minor imperfections particularly during warm ambient conditions.
Clarity varies from clear to cloudy white depending on water quality – a natural result of the rapid 6-minute freeze process that traps air bubbles. The hollow center provides increased surface area for faster drink cooling but also accelerates melting compared to solid cubes. My timed tests showed complete melting in 22-25 minutes in room-temperature water, notably faster than the 35-40 minutes for solid cubes.
Silonn bullet ice is a bit softer, but it isn’t nugget ice so you can’t chew it easily.

Silonn SLIM22 Review: Energy and Water Consumption
- Normal water and energy consumption
I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Silonn SLIM22 operates on a 170W compressor consuming approximately 4 kWh per 24 hours of continuous operation. Real-world usage patterns typically involve 6-10 hours daily, bringing actual consumption to 1-1.7 kWh per day.
Water consumption reaches approximately 11-12 gallons per 100 pounds of ice production. The machine recirculates melted ice water back into production rather than draining it, improving efficiency compared to flow-through systems.

Silonn SLIM22 Review: Noise Level
- Quiet operation
The Silonn SLIM22 operates at approximately 45 decibels during the ice-making cycle, which decibel meter testing confirmed at 33-37dB measured 3 feet away. This places it in the “working refrigerator” category – noticeable if you’re paying attention but ignorable during normal activities. For context, normal conversation measures 60dB while a library sits around 40dB.
It is very normal for a bullet ice maker at this price range.

Silonn SLIM22 Review: Features
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Add water alert, ice full notification
- Has Wi-Fi controlling
The app control features are remarkably entertaining, especially for the first week when novelty drives experimentation. Yet the overall feature implementation feels so 2018 – a time when adding Wi-Fi to appliances seemed innovative rather than the baseline expectation it’s become. The main reason to buy this machine is for the smart features, so I made sure I took a good, hard look at that functionality.
The problem is that smart features on a countertop ice maker solve problems that don’t exist. The Silonn app (iOS and Android compatible) connects via 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and offers four functions: remote start/stop, ice size selection, timer scheduling, and refill/full alerts. These features work reliably – commands execute within 2-3 seconds – but the fundamental question remains unanswered: why control a machine sitting 3 feet away via smartphone?
Missing features reveal where Silonn’s ambitions fell short. The app doesn’t integrate with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit despite these being standard in 2025 smart appliances. You can’t say “Alexa, start the ice maker” – you must open the dedicated Silonn app instead. There’s no IFTTT integration for automation workflows, no energy consumption tracking despite having Wi-Fi connectivity, and no ice production history to help optimize usage patterns.
The self-cleaning function deserves particular mention as the machine’s best feature, ironically having nothing to do with smart connectivity. Holding the clean button for 5 seconds initiates a 30-minute automated cycle circulating cleaning solution through the system. This works excellently for preventing mineral buildup, though you’ll still need manual basket and exterior cleaning separately.

Verdict
The Silonn SLIM22 has an additional feature, but is it worth paying $40 over an already good appliance like the Silonn SLIM09 or Silonn SLIM21.
