The Frigidaire Gallery EFIC237 brings restaurant-quality sphere ice to home bars at a competitive price point, though reliability concerns and limited features hold it back from greatness. Today, we will talk a bit more in my Frigidaire Gallergy EFIC240 review.
In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:
- I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
- I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
- I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

PROS
- Affordable gourmet ice
- Durability is okay
CONS
- Takes long time to get ice
- Need more water to produce one batch, stop earlier than other models
Frigidaire brings over a century of American appliance innovation to the countertop ice maker market. As a member of the Electrolux Group since 1979, the brand has evolved from its 1918 origins as a refrigeration pioneer to become a household name in kitchen appliances. The Frigidaire EFIC240 represents their latest attempt to capture the growing artisanal ice market, targeting whiskey enthusiasts who demand crystal-clear spheres for their premium spirits.

Frigidaire Gallery EFIC240 Review: Price
- Available to buy now
- Starts at $299
The Frigidaire EFIC240 enters the market at $299, positioning itself as the most affordable sphere ice maker I’ve tested in 2025. This pricing undercuts premium competitors for sphere ice maker by a substantial $300, making artisanal ice accessible to a broader audience.
To be fair, this aggressive pricing strategy makes sense given Frigidaire’s manufacturing in China alongside rising brands like Euhomy. The company maintains its century-old quality standards while leveraging overseas production to compete on price. At this price point, you’re getting sphere ice capability that would have cost over $500 just two years ago.
It isn’t too expensive in terms of Frigidaire mid-range countertop ice maker. The Frigidaire EFIC237 and Frigidaire EFIC255 both cost more than the Frigidaire EFIC240, so you can’t expect something from the Gallery collection to be cheaper.

Frigidaire EFIC240 Review: Design
- Similar to the Frigidaire EFIC255
- Has several colors
The Frigidaire EFIC240 measures 16.75″ deep by 11.75″ wide by 20.25″ high, making it surprisingly compact for a sphere ice maker. The grey finish plays it safe aesthetically, avoiding the bold color choices of competitors while maintaining a professional appearance that won’t clash with existing kitchen appliances.
The transparent viewing window represents a particularly pleasing design choice, allowing users to monitor ice production without opening the unit. This feature, borrowed from commercial ice makers, adds both functionality and visual interest to what could have been a bland appliance.
Unless you’re looking at the internal parts of the Frigidaire EFIC240, you’re not the only one to make mistake it with other nugget ice makers from Frigidaire, notably the Frigidaire EFIC255. If you’re looking for a nugget ice maker, make sure you don’t put the Frigidaire EFIC240 on cart.

Frigidaire EFIC240 Review: Build
- Frigidaire has better durability
- Back to plastic housing
Today, more and more countertop ice makers come to plastic as the main material for their housings. The Frigidaire EFIC240 is a very complex ice maker, however, as it doesn’t need to constantly produce ice like its nugget brothers, the Frigidaire EFIC240 is actually better for durability, at least on paper.
It isn’t a popular ice maker, so you can forgive me for not having even one that needs fixing. Looking at the customer reviews, it seems we have a troubling picture – the Frigidaire EFIC240 needs enough water to make ice, and I found a lot of negative reviews that believe their Frigidaire EFIC240 to be broken for not making ice. It is a common mistake, so you don’t need to worry.
After all, Frigidaire still offers the best customer service, since the company has service centers nationwide and you can easily bring your unit in for repairs.

Frigidaire Gallery EFIC240 Review: Performance
Frigidaire EFIC240 Review: Capacity
- Produces up to 44 lbs of ice daily
- Internal storage: 10 spheres
The Frigidaire EFIC240 produces up to 84 spheres in 24 hours, with the first batch ready in approximately 30-35 minutes. In real-world testing, this translates to about 3.5 spheres per hour once the unit reaches operating temperature.
The 10-sphere storage basket represents a significant limitation. Unlike nugget ice makers that can store pounds of ice, sphere makers require individual compartments, limiting capacity. Users must transfer ice to freezer storage regularly to maintain production.
Below is a simple chart to help you see the difference between the first batch speed of the Frigidaire EFIC240, in comparison with its nugget brothers like the Frigidaire EFIC255.

Frigidaire EFIC240 Review: Ice Quality
- Gourmet ice
- Clear, decent melt rate
The sphere ice produced varies significantly based on water quality, a common trait among directional freezing units. With filtered water, the Frigidaire EFIC240 creates reasonably clear spheres, though not the crystal perfection achieved by the best like Hoshizaki.
With tap water, however, you may experience cloudy-center spheres. This cloudiness doesn’t affect performance but disappoints users expecting the glass-like clarity shown in marketing materials. It has decent melt rate, which is expected for gourmet ice.

Frigidaire EFIC240 Review: Energy and Water Consumption
- Normal water and energy consumption
I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Frigidaire EFIC240 needs 200 watts to run, which is approximately 4.8 kWh daily when running continuously, costing roughly $0.72 per day at average electricity rates.
Water consumption calculations reveal approximately 15 gallons needed per 100 pounds of ice production. I explained better in this article “Does an ice maker use a lot of water?”, but I remind you that each sphere ice needs more water than common bullet ice, so if the water level is too low, the Frigidaire EFIC240 will stop producing ices.

Frigidaire EFIC240 Review: Noise Level
- Not quiet operation
Operational noise measures approximately 55-60 dB during the freezing cycle, a bit noisier than a modern refrigerator. Users consistently praise the quiet operation, with one reviewer noting it “isn’t noisy” and works well in open-plan living spaces. For me, it is just the same as the Frigidaire EFIC255.
The compressor engages in predictable cycles rather than the random “growling” noted in some Frigidaire nugget ice makers. This consistent hum fades into background noise, unlike the attention-grabbing sounds of the EFIC255 model.

Frigidaire EFIC240 Review: Features
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Add water alert, ice full notification
- Adjusts ice size
It is still a Frigidaire Gallery ice maker, so you can expect the same features on the Frigidaire EFIC240. Auto self-cleaning functionality works adequately, running a 20-minute cycle that flushes the system. However, users must manually initiate cleaning – there’s no reminder system or scheduled maintenance alerts. The transparent viewing window partially compensates for the absence of app connectivity by allowing visual monitoring.
I enjoy the ice maker to be simple, no complex features, and the Frigidaire EFIC240 delivers. Those accustomed to smart home integration will find the lack of connectivity frustrating.

Verdict
The Frigidaire EFIC240 occupies a unique position as the most affordable sphere ice maker from a recognized brand. For whiskey enthusiasts on a budget or those testing the waters of artisanal ice, it offers genuine value despite its limitations. The decent production capacity suit small households perfectly, while the competitive pricing makes sphere ice accessible to mainstream consumers.
