The Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is one of the best ice makers 2025 you can buy, even if it doesn’t quite do enough to warrant upgrading from the Frigidaire EFIC121, but the self-cleaning feature is just a godsend. As much as I love my own EFIC121, I believe the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS will always be my pick.
For the price, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is still $89, meaning it’s similar to the Frigidaire EFIC120 and EFIC121. While on their own none of the upgrades for 2025 are huge, they add up to offer a fantastic ice maker experience.
The contribution of the self-cleaning technology is important, especially when the competitors of Frigidaire from China, mostly Euhomy and Silonn, are doing great with all necessary features for a budget countertop ice maker. Frigidaire portable ice maker not only needs to keep a competitive price tag, but also upgrade the additional features to maximum.
Moreover, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS comes with 3 different color variances, making the portable ice maker more appealing to different buyers. If you find my voice a little biased, yes, it’s my new favorite Frigidaire portable ice maker.

If you already have a Frigidaire countertop ice maker, you’ll learn by diving deep in my ice maker reviews, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is a benchmark for a budget portable ice maker. It looks the same as the Frigidaire EFIC117-SS, albeit with different colors, and it’s enough to add one new product page. The Frigidaire EFIC123 measures 12.3″D x 8.7″W x 12.5″H and weighs 19 pounds, and at the first glance, you will think it is just the same old Frigidaire EFIC121.
Still, there are a few differences to tell the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS apart with its previous brothers. First, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS employs the same large window lid from the Frigidaire EFIC120, and it’s suitable to me, who’re old enough to see through a small window. Second, the top control board of the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is distinctive, kind of an one-of-its-kind.
These dimensions allow it to fit comfortably on most countertops without overwhelming the space, even fitting under standard kitchen cabinets. As a result, I choose the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS as the new best ice maker for RV.
The Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is available in multiple color variations, including silver stainless, black stainless, and red stainless finishes, allowing users to match their existing kitchen appliances. It has the same large air vents from the EFIC117, which I prefer for being easier to clean than something like the Frigidaire EFIC189.

The Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is another Frigidaire countertop ice maker featuring a stainless steel exterior that provides an attractive, modern appearance. It is also better for durability and corrosion resistance. Of course, the internal parts of the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is made of food-grade plastic, but it is really durable for the price. I’m using my Frigidaire EFIC121 for 3 years, and I don’t see any reason the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS with better housing can’t last that long.
One thing that I prefer to buy a Frigidaire portable ice maker is because of its warranty. The ice maker is serviced by many centers nationwide, unlike a random Chinese ice maker that you need to contact a third party. Even when you are out of options, you can always look for the nearest technician, because Frigidaire parts are accessible. For a no-name Chinese ice maker, for example, I need to guess the part when I need to fix one.

Frigidaire EFIC123-SS Review: Capacity

The Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is supposed to be just the same as the Frigidaire EFIC117-SS, so it produces up to 26 pounds (11.8 kg) of ice in 24 hours, but I found the ice storage capacity to be 2 pounds this time. I don’t think it is that much important (just 0.5 pounds), and many times, the ice maker can make too much ice.
The standout feature is the ice production speed: the first batch is ready in about 6 minutes, with 9 pieces per batch. This rapid production cycle means you can have fresh ice almost on demand, making it ideal for impromptu entertaining or hot summer days when ice consumption rockets through the roof.
In my testing, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is on the slower side of Frigidaire countertop ice makers. The difference is not big, and I doubt that some seconds really matter in ice making technology.

The Frigidaire EFIC123-SS produces bullet-shaped ice cubes in two different sizes, giving users flexibility based on their beverage needs. Bullet ice, also known as hollow cylinder ice, is characterized by its distinctive shape with a hollow center that allows for faster cooling of drinks.
It is the same Frigidaire bullet ice quality, which is a bit softer than normal fridge ice. Remember that the ice maker doesn’t store ice, so if you forget them, it will melt back to the water tank. The melting ices are also “wet”, and when you store them in freezer, they will stick together.

This translates to roughly 9.69 kWh per 100 pounds of ice production.
For water consumption, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS is efficient due to its recirculating design. So to produce 100 pounds of ice, the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS needs approximately 12-13 gallons of water. The Frigidaire EFIC123 markets itself as having a “silent cooling function” and being “designed to be quiet”. And it isn’t a bluff, but actually all countertop ice makers are meant to be quiet. You can hear the sound of the compressor (which is quieter than the compressor of a refrigerator), the water flowing inside the ice maker, and the dropping ice. None of them are “loud”, as the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS operates at 39 decibels. It is quieter than a typical library, just so you know.
Again, I must remind that all ice makers make sound when dropping the ices. It is the nature of a countertop ice maker, as I wrote in “Are countertop ice makers loud?”

The large see-through window allows users to monitor ice production without opening the unit.
