By ‘best nugget ice makers’ I of course refer to machines like the GE Profile Opal 2.0, which has long dominated the premium nugget ice segment. Thankfully, people who prefer their ice makers cheap can still enjoy authentic nugget texture thanks to the Silonn SLIM17.
You’re getting authentic nugget ice here, with the compressed ice flake structure that creates that satisfying crunch and rapid flavor absorption. You’re also getting its budget construction though, as the plastic housing and basic components make no attempt to hide the Silonn SLIM17’s price point. At $149, that’s the cheapest you can pay for nugget ices.
Silonn has released several new models to make better nugget ice, and I find the texture and softness of things from the Silonn SLIM41 and Silonn SLIM43 far exceed the original Silonn nugget ice in the Silonn SLIM17. But still, as a budget ice maker to compete against the Euhomy IM-12, the Silonn SLIM17 is as cheap as possible.
You can also look for the Silonn SLIM24 which is just another style but same machine as the Silonn SLIM17, or choose a different style with the Silonn SLIM30. Nonetheless, you’re buying the budget nugget ice, and the Silonn SLIM17 certainly delivers what you ask for.

You’re looking at a compact nugget ice maker that manages to pack genuine nugget ice production into countertop dimensions of 12.5″W x 9.9″D x 14.5″H. The Silonn SLIM17 fits comfortably in tighter spaces, and this miniaturization naturally limits the internal ice basket capacity compared to larger competitors, though.
The machine weighs 18 pounds, so it’s fairly lightweight as nugget makers go, and it measures 12.5 x 9.9 x 14.5 inches, which is notably smaller than the GE Opal 2.0’s hulking dimensions. It’s considerably more compact than the NewAir NIM044, too.
The Silonn SLIM17 has a plastic housing with a transparent viewing window on top, making it feel firmly budget-oriented in the hand compared to premium nugget makers. It ships in a limited range of color options: black and stainless steel finishes, though availability varies by retailer and specific model variant. The black version sports a matte finish that resists fingerprints reasonably well, whereas the stainless model predictably shows smudges more readily – a familiar trade-off in this category.
Both the viewing window and control panel are on the top surface of the device, with straightforward ICE/CLEAN button functionality and LED indicators for “ICE FULL” and “ADD WATER” alerts. There’s no pretense of premium aesthetics here—the design philosophy centers on delivering nugget ice affordably rather than making a statement piece for your kitchen.

To be fair, durability predictions based on construction and customer feedback suggest the Silonn SLIM17 performs reasonably well for its price point. Given how long the Euhomy IM-12 last in my kitchen, the Silonn SLIM17 should do the same.

The 33 pounds per day is nothing to phone home about, but it’s more than enough for most household use cases, and the Silonn SLIM17 performed admirably in real-world testing. It blitzed through multiple party sessions and daily beverage needs without breaking a sweat (though it did warm up if I was pushing continuous operation), and it did so without significant slowdowns or quality drops. Nugget ice fans on a budget won’t find anything to dislike here.

The nuggets emerge measuring approximately 0.4 inches in diameter, smaller than classic “Sonic ice” but still good for standard drinking glasses. Ice clarity and consistency prove adequate for the price point, though discerning users will notice differences compared to premium machines.
