The Silonn SLIM53 marks the brand’s ambitious entry into the premium crescent ice category, delivering crystal-clear ice that genuinely melts slower than traditional bullet ice. It is a good response to new Euhomy ice maker, and in this Silonn SLIM53 review, I want to introduce the next-gen countertop clear ice maker to you.
In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:
- I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
- I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
- I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.
Jump to:
PROS
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Crescent ice for the price
CONS
- A bit bigger than typical Silonn ice makers
Silonn has emerged as a formidable player in the countertop ice maker market since the early 2010s. Operating under SeaLoon International Group (Hong Kong) Limited, the company has built its reputation by offering aggressively priced alternatives to old American brands like Frigidaire and Igloo.
Silonn SLIM53 Review: Price
- Available to buy now
- Costs $189 in the U.S market
Clear ice maker market becomes far better than 10 years ago, as new candidates from Silonn and Euhomy are doing their bests at making the highest clarity as possible. The Silonn SLIM53 currently retails for $189 on Amazon, positioning it as a mid-range option in the new crescent ice maker section.
For a brand that built its reputation on ultra-budget bullet ice makers priced between $70-$90, the Silonn SLIM53 represents a significant step upmarket. The premium is justified by the specialized crescent ice technology, which requires more complex freezing mechanisms than standard bullet ice production.
You can find the Silonn SLIM53 competing against the Euhomy IM-022 for the price, but it is usually on sale, thus the Silonn SLIM53 is a more attractive ice maker to buy.

Silonn SLIM53 Review: Durability
Silonn SLIM53 Review: Design
- Front control board
- Very similar to the Euhomy IM-022
The Silonn SLIM53 is very similar to the Euhomy IM-022 which released 2 months before, and it is no shocking choice. The Silonn logo on the front and the prominent LED control panel immediately catch the eye. I don’t think anyone will ask you what ice maker you have, since the branding is clearly visible from across the kitchen.
Furthermore, this is a relatively tall appliance with dimensions of approximately 9.4 x 14.0 x 15.6 inches, though at around 21 lbs it’s not the heaviest in its class. Because the Silonn SLIM53 has a fairly vertical profile, you can still fit it under most standard kitchen cabinets, but the chance that it will work in every countertop space is not particularly large.
With food-grade polypropylene construction, the Silonn SLIM53 can handle normal kitchen use, and the plastic housing feels reasonably sturdy. What’s unfortunately missing is a stainless steel exterior option, so I’d advise you to be mindful of scratches and scuffs over time. Through this choice of materials, the Silonn SLIM53 actually feels much more budget-oriented than some competitors, since the Euhomy Luna Plus and Frigidaire models offer stainless steel alternatives.
Finally, I’m pleased to see the removable water tank and ice basket design. These pull-out components make filling and cleaning significantly easier than top-loading alternatives. The drip tray for condensation collection is a thoughtful addition that prevents countertop water damage during extended operation.

Silonn SLIM53 Review: Build
- Silonn has decent durability
The build quality of the Silonn SLIM53 follows the brand’s established philosophy of value over premium materials. The entire housing uses food-grade polypropylene plastic, with no stainless steel components in the exterior construction. It’s a practical approach but one that won’t appeal to those wanting a more premium aesthetic.
Internal components feel adequate for the price point. The compressor system uses R600a refrigerant, which aligns with current environmental standards and provides efficient cooling performance. The water pump and ice release mechanisms are functional, though I’d characterize them as budget-tier rather than commercial-grade.
The one-year warranty provides basic protection, though multiple users have reported frustration with the warranty claim process taking 4-6 weeks for replacement units. If long-term reliability is your priority, the additional investment in an established brand like Frigidaire may prove worthwhile.

Silonn SLIM53 Review: Performance
Silonn SLIM53 Review: Capacity
- Produces up to 22 lbs of ice daily
- Internal storage: 2.2 lbs
After this not entirely positive durability story, we have better news on the performance front. The Silonn SLIM53 is equipped with a compressor-based crescent ice system capable of producing 22 lbs of crystal-clear ice daily, which translates to approximately 2000 individual ice pieces.
I’ve tested various ice makers in this category and can confirm the Silonn SLIM53 delivers respectable performance that aligns with its advertised specifications. The first batch of 16 crescent ice pieces arrives in approximately 16 minutes from a cold start. Once the compressor reaches optimal operating temperature, subsequent cycles maintain consistent 12-15 minute intervals.
What I’m less satisfied with is how the 22 lbs daily output compares to bullet ice alternatives. Standard bullet ice makers in the same price range routinely deliver 26-33 lbs daily. The trade-off for clear, slow-melting crescent ice is reduced overall volume. For households that prioritize quantity over quality, this could be a dealbreaker.

Silonn SLIM53 Review: Ice Quality
- Clear crescent ice
- Not as clear as newer Silonn models
If there’s something you shouldn’t expect from budget bullet ice makers, it’s bar-quality crystal-clear ice. The trio of cloudy appearance, rapid melting, and drink dilution have plagued countertop ice makers for years, and no amount of marketing has been able to change that. The Silonn SLIM53 has fortunately brought significant improvement to this situation, though you simply can’t have everything for $180.
In good conditions, the crescent ice quality is genuinely impressive. The flow-water freezing method produces ice that’s approximately 85-90% clear, with minimal air bubbles trapped inside. The half-moon shape provides excellent surface area contact for rapid drink chilling while the solid density ensures slower melting than hollow bullet ice.
The adjustable thickness feature truly shines here. At the thinnest 6.5mm setting, you get lighter pieces ideal for sodas and soft drinks where rapid cooling matters more than melt rate. At 14mm thickness, substantial ice pieces emerge that are perfect for whiskey, bourbon, and craft cocktails where preserving drink integrity is paramount.

Silonn SLIM53 Review: Energy and Water Consumption
- Normal water and energy consumption
I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. I was also surprised how well the energy efficiency held up under various conditions. After four hours of continuous ice production, the Silonn SLIM53 consumed approximately 0.6-0.7 kWh, while some competitors in the clear ice category consume 0.8-1.0 kWh for the same duration.
Operating at approximately 150-180 watts during active ice production, the Silonn SLIM53 translates to roughly 3.6-4.3 kWh per 24 hours of continuous operation. To produce 100 lbs of crescent ice, expect to consume approximately 16-20 kWh of electricity. At average US electricity rates of $0.12/kWh, that’s roughly $1.90-$2.40 per 100 lbs of ice produced.
Water consumption runs approximately 15-18 gallons per 100 pounds of ice produced, which is typical for the clear ice category.

Silonn SLIM53 Review: Noise Level
- Quiet operation
The Silonn SLIM53 operates at a noise level that’s noticeable but manageable. During active ice production cycles, I measured approximately 50 dB, which is louder than a typical refrigerator humming at around 40-43 dB but comparable to a normal conversation at about 60 dB.
The transparent lid allows you to monitor the ice production visually. The smart sensor automatically detects when the ice basket is full and stops production to prevent overflow. During the ice release phase, brief clicking sounds occur as finished pieces drop into the basket, similar to what you’d hear from an automatic ice maker in a refrigerator freezer.

Silonn SLIM53 Review: Features
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Add water alert, ice full notification
If there’s something that distinguishes the Silonn SLIM53 from basic crescent ice makers, it’s the feature set. The 24-hour programmable timer, adjustable ice thickness, and self-cleaning mode come standard, which is impressive for this price point. Unfortunately, these are also essentially the only advanced features you’ll find here.
The timer function allows scheduling ice production up to 24 hours in advance. Simply press and hold the “-” button for 5 seconds to activate, then adjust timing in 1-hour increments using the “+” or “-” buttons. This allows you to wake up to fresh ice or have production start automatically before guests arrive for evening entertaining.
The LED status indicators provide useful at-a-glance system feedback: blue for active production, purple when the basket is full, and orange for low water. The control panel is intuitive and requires no learning curve.
The self-cleaning functionality activates with a button hold, running a 20-minute cleaning cycle that circulates water through the system. This doesn’t replace periodic deep cleaning with descaling solutions, but it simplifies routine maintenance between thorough cleanings.

Verdict
The Silonn SLIM53 is the best countertop gourmet ice maker in 2025, for making clear crescent ices. It is affordable, has self-cleaning feature and makes enough ice for an average American household.
