Silonn SLIM58 Review: Trusted Review by Technician in 2026

Silonn ups the game with the Silonn SLIM58, clearly taking inspiration from the old Frigidaire Gallergy EFIC240. With this Silonn SLIM58 review, I will help you find out if this is the ice maker you want to have in your kitchen.

In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:

  • I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
  • I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
  • I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

PROS

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • High clarity

CONS

  • Less capacity than a typical clear ice maker
  • More expensive
  • Durability concerns

Silonn has been from China’s competitive small appliance market since the mid-2010s, positioning itself alongside established brands like Euhomy and NewAir in the value-oriented segment. The company operates within China’s broader manufacturing ecosystem that supplies affordable kitchen appliances to Western markets, primarily through Amazon’s marketplace platform.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Price

  • Available to buy now
  • Costs $429 in the U.S market

The Silonn SLIM58 carries a price tag that reflects its clear ice specialty, sitting in the $450 mid-range where you could buy a full-size undercounter ice maker. It costs as high as the GE Profile Opal 2.0, and I believe it’s still the cheapest way to enjoy the spherical crystal clear ice.

To be fair, the clear ice sphere market has become increasingly competitive two years ago, with the Silonn SLIM53 and Silonn SLIM54 redefined the market by making actual clear ices. We will look back at the Frigidaire Gallergy EFIC240 with the same ice making technology, but the ice maker makes so few ices per day that it needs a better competition. So to say, we need the Silonn SLIM58, to push the technology in the better way.

Still, the Silonn SLIM58 is costlier, at $429. Meaning you’re ready to pay double the price of a modern clear ice maker like the Euhomy IM-022, just to have an artisanal gourmet ice. Is it worth the money, well, depending on who you value the better shape.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Durability

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Design

The Silonn SLIM58 is a strikingly industrial ice maker. The unit I would test came in Stainless Steel, which casts a brushed metallic finish across the exterior (there’s no other color option). It’s utilitarian in all but the most forgiving light, which for me strikes the perfect balance between commercial equipment and countertop appliance. The finish is rated at standard food-grade stainless steel specifications for durability and cleaning resistance.

The SLIM58 is otherwise simple-looking, but keeps things feeling premium with well-chosen materials and attention to detail. The ice maker is weighty, at an estimated 35-40 pounds, but doesn’t feel overly heavy when positioning it. The viewing window on the front panel is made of impact-resistant acrylic rather than the glass found on premium GE models, and I have to say, I’m a fan. It gives a practical contrast to the polished stainless exterior and everything on the front panel a pleasant functional aesthetic.

The front panel hosts a control interface with LED indicators, positioned centrally. The status lights are reasonably conspicuous designs that serve as indicators for water level, ice production status, and cleaning mode – which is, as it functions, very similar in purpose to control panels on commercial ice equipment.

Ergonomically, the SLIM58 finds a nice balance between compact countertop appliances and bulky commercial ice makers. It feels substantial to position, but is a little unwieldy for frequent relocation. The unit also seems plenty durable, with sturdy construction and stainless steel exterior, and requires three to four inches of ventilation clearance on all sides.

On the topic of water filling, the dual-option system can be found on the unit’s design. The water system is a sphere maker feature in all but name, and currently supports both manual reservoir filling and automatic plumbing connection. It’s a nice flexibility to have and offers more versatility than single-method competitors, feeling overall more accommodating as a result.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Build

  • Silonn has decent durability

It is not advised when betting your money on an expensive Silonn ice maker, and the Silonn SLIM58, while having a robust build quality, seems a bit lighter for me. As a result, I don’t think the durability of this appliance is good enough, and I advise you to pay more for extra protection.

Compressor quality determines longevity more than any other factor in ice makers, yet Silonn doesn’t publicly specify their cooling component supplier. Industry-standard compressors from Chinese manufacturers typically deliver 2-3 years of daily use before efficiency degrades or mechanical failures emerge.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Performance

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Capacity

  • Produces up to 100 spheres per day
  • Internal storage: 1.8 lbs

Day-to-day, the Silonn SLIM58 produces admirably, powered by Silonn’s RapidSphere and CrystalSphere technologies. I encountered no slowdown at all in continuous production, and found I could maintain steady sphere output through multiple production cycles with no fuss from the cooling system.

The ice maker also produces well across its directional freezing process, with reasonably consistent cycle times and no real variation or slowdown. The dual water-filling system lives up to its flexibility in accommodating different installation scenarios, which provides near-enough continuous production capability from anywhere with plumbing access.

The Silonn SLIM58 comes equipped with approximately 100-108 spheres daily production capacity, a moderate allotment that means the unit has adequate output for regular home entertaining. The ice maker’s combination of 2.4-inch sphere size and directional freezing technology also makes it a capable home bar machine, and I had no issues producing sufficient ice for gatherings of 15-20 guests for sessions throughout the evening, with little noticeable production lag.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Ice Quality

  • Clear ice
  • High clarity

The ice production system on the Silonn SLIM58 is absolutely superb. This is a robust, flexible, and staggeringly powerful sphere-making setup that excels in most situations, particularly with its clarity and slow melt rate. Silonn has bested both NewAir and Frigidaire in terms of making crystal clear ice for premium drinks.

Each of the sphere zones produced by the Silonn SLIM58 has crystal-clear characteristics, ensuring consistent quality across its 2.4-inch diameter. You get a transparent top hemisphere, clear mid-section, and slightly cloudy bottom third where impurities settle. All of these zones feel like natural components of directional freezing rather than quality defects, and despite my noted preference for completely clear ice I must say that this is the best sphere clarity I’ve come across in this price range.

The sphere production process is very active overall – some people will prefer faster bullet ice cycles, but I think the 40-minute freezing time adds proper directional freezing and clarity control, which directly opposes the quick-but-cloudy approach favored by standard ice makers. As for melt rate, the spheres maintain 70% mass after 20 minutes in room-temperature spirits with the ability to extend chill time significantly beyond traditional cubes.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Energy and Water Consumption

  • Normal water and energy consumption

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Silonn SLIM58 sports reasonable daily energy consumption, with efficiency to spare. The estimated 300-400 watt power draw during active cooling gives the Silonn SLIM58 acceptable operating costs. It handles continuous production with no issue, and doesn’t seem to drain excessive power during extended sphere-making sessions or when running through multiple freeze cycles.

Water consumption patterns are also acceptable, and the unit requires approximately 1.7-2 gallons daily for full 100-sphere production with losses at water purging during directional freezing accounting for 15-20% additional consumption, resulting in roughly 14-15 gallons per 100 pounds of ice versus 12-13 gallons for standard bullet ice makers.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Noise Level

  • Not quiet operation

As a clear ice maker, the Silonn SLIM58 isn’t as good as the smaller machines like the Silonn SLIM53, and it ends up with a more noticeable noise level at 60 decibels.

60 decibels (dB) is the sound level of a normal conversation, a bustling office, or a quiet café, representing a comfortable, safe, and everyday sound that you can listen to for extended periods without hearing damage.

Silonn SLIM58 Review: Features

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Add water alert, ice full notification

The control system is one of the smoothest operation experiences I’ve had with an ice maker interface, neck-and-neck with premium Frigidaire models – which adds up, considering they use similar LED indicator approaches. Status monitoring is provided courtesy of straightforward LED panel design, with support for water level indication, production cycle tracking, basket capacity alerts, and cleaning mode activation.

Silonn has imbued the Silonn SLIM58 with some of the most practical control layouts I’ve seen on a sphere ice maker. This translates into exceptionally clear status communication, and in combination with Silonn’s physical button feedback, automated production cycles, and intuitive indicator positioning, gives the control system a straightforward sense of usability and reliability I’ve seen from the Frigidaire Gallergy EFIC240.

However, at $450 range, we are right to ask the Wi-Fi connectivity feature, like what we have with the GE Profile Opal 2.0. But no, the Silonn SLIM58 is still not the ice maker to have that feature.

Verdict

The Silonn SLIM58 occupies interesting middle ground in the clear ice sphere market, built on genuinely impressive CrystalSphere technology. However, it costs more, and its durability is still something we can’t afford to play at high risk.
