The Silonn SLIM54 is a true countertop clear ice maker, making the crystal clear ice that you love from thousand-dollar commercial ice machines. Unlike the previous Silonn SLIM31, you’re buying an ice maker for a premium experience. Let’s find out in our newest Silonn SLIM54 review.
In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:
- I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
- I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
- I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

PROS
- Has self-cleaning feature
- High clarity
CONS
- Less capacity than a typical clear ice maker
- More expensive
- Durability concerns
Silonn is an electronics manufacturer based in Hong Kong that has quickly built a reputation in the countertop ice maker space. The brand operates under SeaLoon International Group (Hong Kong) Limited, with their US trademark registered in October 2021.
Silonn SLIM54 Review: Price
- Available to buy now
- Costs $299 in the U.S market
The Silonn SLIM54 is perhaps the first budget countertop ice maker that delivers genuine crystal-clear ice at a fraction of what competitors charge, but I found it hard to ignore some of its key pitfalls – namely the slower production cycle and questions around long-term reliability from a relatively new brand.
You can buy the Silonn SLIM54 at $299, which isn’t such a good price as the Silonn SLIM53. This, together with how the SLIM53 doing a great work at high clarity, means only the enthusiasts will look to buy the new Silonn SLIM54. It’s a pity, because the Silonn SLIM54 make cubic ices with high clarity, thanks to its complex process.
However, you should beware that such high complexity can cause trouble for the ice maker’s durability. And from my experience, Silonn isn’t a good brand for durability. I prefer the Euhomy ice maker for a decent working time.

Silonn SLIM54 Review: Durability
Silonn SLIM54 Review: Design
- Front control board
- Very similar to the Euhomy IM-022
Not all clear ice makers are built the same. In the past I’ve tested premium stainless steel units that weigh upwards of 30 pounds, whereas the Silonn SLIM54 feels considerably lighter and more compact. It’s worth noting that I’ve reviewed dozens of countertop appliances, and the SLIM54 sits comfortably in that sweet spot between portability and capability, with dimensions of approximately 12.5″ × 9.5″ × 13″ and a weight around 17 pounds.
Unlike the full stainless steel construction of the Frigidaire ice makers, the Silonn SLIM54 features a plastic housing with stainless accents – giving it a modern look that works well enough in most kitchens without the premium heft. The result is an appliance that’s easier to move around but perhaps less commanding on the countertop.
The transparent viewing window on top is particularly pleasing. It lets you monitor the ice-making process and check capacity without constantly lifting the lid. Watching the directional freezing process work its magic – slowly pushing air bubbles out of the water to create perfectly clear cubes – is genuinely satisfying to observe. The LED touch control panel is recessed and responsive, though like many stainless-finish appliances, it does attract fingerprints.
Beyond size, the Silonn SLIM54 impresses with its 2L water tank capacity and relatively compact footprint. Whether I was running it on my kitchen counter or setting it up at a home bar, the unit didn’t dominate the space – even outside under the bright summer sun during a backyard party, the controls remained visible and usable.

Silonn SLIM54 Review: Build
- Silonn has decent durability
The Silonn SLIM54 is constructed primarily from ABS plastic with food-grade interior components. The compressor unit sits at the rear, and my testing found it runs cool enough even during extended operation. The water reservoir is accessible from the top, and the ice collection tray slides out easily for transfer.
What concerns me as a technician is Silonn’s limited track record. Their US trademark was only registered in 2021, meaning we don’t have the five to ten years of field data that we have for brands like Luma Comfort or NewAir. Looking at Amazon customer reviews for Silonn products broadly, approximately 8-12% of reviews mention reliability concerns – compressor failures, sensor malfunctions, or error codes appearing within the first year.
I’d recommend purchasing through Amazon with strong return policies. If the Silonn SLIM54 works well past the 90-day mark, you’ve likely got a solid unit. But the 8-12% reliability concern rate across Silonn’s product line is something budget-conscious buyers should factor into their decision.

Silonn SLIM54 Review: Performance
Silonn SLIM54 Review: Capacity
- Produces up to 26 lbs of ice daily
- Internal storage: 1.8 lbs
Ranking ice makers isn’t always straightforward – some excel in speed, others in ice quality, capacity, or efficiency. Still, the Silonn SLIM54 runs on a directional freezing system that prioritizes clarity over production speed, and in that specific mission, it delivers.
Typical countertop clear ice makers will make about 30-40 pounds of ice per day, but due to a more complex process, the Silonn SLIM54 can deliver only 26 pounds, in perfect conditions. The storage bin holds approximately 1.8 pounds of ice at a time – enough for 20-25 cocktails before needing to transfer to a freezer. For casual entertaining or daily home bar use, this is perfectly adequate. For large parties, you’ll want to start the machine early and stockpile ice in your freezer.

Silonn SLIM54 Review: Ice Quality
- Clear ice
- High clarity
The ability to produce truly clear ice at home is one of the key desires for cocktail enthusiasts. Sure, you want to save money by avoiding $2-per-cube artisan ice deliveries, but you don’t want to settle for cloudy, fast-melting cubes that water down your bourbon. That’s why, right next to price, ice clarity is one of the top qualities buyers seek in premium ice makers.
The Silonn SLIM54 makes no apologies for focusing on crystal clarity and slow-melt performance over production speed. However, it still does well enough for most home bartenders to be happy with their results, especially if premium ice is a secondary concern to budget.
It is not the clearest ice I have produced while testing high-end commercial ice machines, but it was satisfactory across the board. The directional freezing method genuinely works – cubes emerge with minimal cloudiness, though occasional slight haziness in the center can occur depending on water quality. Using filtered or distilled water yields the best results.
In my testing, a Silonn SLIM54 cube in a rocks glass of room-temperature bourbon melted approximately 15-20% slower than a standard bullet ice cube from my Euhomy IM-06. The larger 1.6″ cube size with three thickness options (thin, medium, thick) provides genuine versatility.

Silonn SLIM54 Review: Energy and Water Consumption
- Normal water and energy consumption
I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Silonn SLIM54 operates at approximately 120-150W during active ice-making cycles. With the 20-minute cycles and automatic shutoff when the bin fills, realistic daily consumption runs 1.5-2.5 kWh depending on how much ice you’re actually producing. That translates to roughly $0.20-0.35 per day at average US electricity rates.
For water consumption, clear ice makers are inherently less efficient than bullet ice makers due to the directional freezing process – some water is discarded to ensure clarity. Expect approximately 17 gallons of water to produce the full 100 pounds of daily capacity, representing roughly 70-75% water efficiency. Standard bullet ice makers achieve 85-90% efficiency by comparison.

Silonn SLIM54 Review: Noise Level
- Quiet operation
The noise level of the Silonn SLIM54 is a bit more noticeable than you could expect from a simple bullet ice maker. Its noise is about 55 dB, which is more than the the previous Silonn SLIM53 from the same company.
To make context for how noisy it is, you can compare the noise level of the Silonn SLIM54 with the refrigerator humming or a quiet air conditioner. You will notice the sound, but you won’t be annoyed by such noise.

Silonn SLIM54 Review: Features
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Add water alert, ice full notification
This isn’t my first time testing a Silonn clear ice maker, and the Silonn SLIM54 took my experience the same as the Silonn SLIM53. I’ve reviewed machines with WiFi connectivity, app control, and scheduled ice-making – the Silonn SLIM54 offers none of that, focusing instead on simplicity.
One feature I personally enjoyed – but might not be for everyone – is the dual cleaning mode. You get both an automatic self-cleaning cycle (hold the clean button for 5 seconds) and the ability to manually clean components. The removable ice tray and accessible water reservoir make deep cleaning straightforward.
The transparent viewing window is genuinely useful, letting you monitor ice production without lifting the lid and releasing cold air. Low water and full ice indicators illuminate when attention is needed, though there’s no audible alert – something competitors like the GE Profile Opal 2.0 include.

Verdict
The Silonn SLIM54 offers a compelling value proposition: genuine crystal-clear ice but at a much higher price point than a typical clear ice maker like the Frigidaire EFIC452-SS and the Euhomy IM-FP.
You must question yourself, do you value the high clarity, or the high quantity of clear ices, because the Silonn SLIM54 delivers less for more.
