The Silonn SLIM40 is one of the latest countertop ice makers to hit the market, launching in February 2025, but without any new innovative features on its board. The Silonn SLIM40 review will tell you exactly whether it’s worth buying over the previous Silonn SLIM33 or not.
In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:
- I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
- I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
- I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.
Jump to:
PROS
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Convenient handle
- Good pricing
CONS
- Not the cheapest
- Doesn’t have bigger storage
Silonn has emerged as a noteworthy player in the home appliance market over the past decade. The brand focuses on creating affordable yet innovative solutions for everyday living, with particular emphasis on countertop ice makers, mini fridges, and small kitchen appliances.
Silonn SLIM40 Review: Price
- Available to buy now
- Costs $89 in the U.S market
With the Silonn SLIM40, you get bullet ice in 6 minutes with a 2.5L expandable basket holding up to 9 cups – nearly double standard models. The LED touch panel provides clear status through four color indicators. Although it’s not a nugget ice maker or smart-connected model, the basket innovation satisfies all your basic needs.
So it can hold a lot of ices at the same time, which is great for a backyard party or outdoor camping. But it is also similar to the Silonn SLIM33, to the point they must be the same machine with different names. The official price of the Silonn SLIM40 is $89, which is basic for a countertop bullet ice maker, and its selling point is having a larger storage than its competitors.
Though the case is entirely true for the Euhomy IM-06, you will find the Frigidaire EFIC121 and Igloo ICEB33 both holding the same capacity as the Silonn SLIM40. As a result, I can’t call the Silonn SLIM40 a clear winner. If you don’t need such a big storage, don’t forget others in the Silonn lineup, like the Silonn SLIM21 and the Silonn SLIM09. They are both cheaper.

Silonn SLIM40 Review: Durability
Silonn SLIM40 Review: Design
- Top control board
- Has a convenient handle
The design segment is probably the most boring aspect of budget ice makers. But that’s not the case with the Silonn SLIM40. It comes with a striking new feature – the expandable ice basket design.
To the front, you get a large transparent viewing window dominating the panel. The top features LED touch controls with four-color indicators. This design looks cleaner than most budget ice makers with cluttered button arrays.
The Silonn SLIM40 body measures approximately 11.5 x 9.5 x 12.5 inches. This sits comfortably on kitchen counters without dominating workspace. The finish is glossy black plastic, and the transparent window adds visual interest during production.
The Silonn SLIM40 features smooth profile with the innovative expandable basket hidden beneath the lid. This is a practical design offering better storage than fixed baskets. It’s one of my favorite features in this price range.
However, with 15-17 pound weight and those dimensions, the Silonn SLIM40 might be slightly heavy for ultra-portable use. To the side, you get ventilation grills that must remain unobstructed. On the bottom, there’s a drainage plug. The top houses water reservoir access and controls.
To the front, there is the viewing window and below, the expandable basket with 2.5L capacity. The ice maker bundles with an ice scoop storing on the basket handle.

Silonn SLIM40 Review: Build
- Silonn has decent durability
In terms of build, you’re looking at plastic housing with ABS or similar polymer components. This is standard for budget ice makers. The plastic feels adequately thick – not premium steel, but not cheap.
To be fair, expecting metal construction at this price would be unrealistic. Internal components use food-grade PP materials meeting safety standards. The compressor remains hidden, though likely matches specs across similarly-priced models.
Still, even with just a little bit of stainless steel, I still believe in the durability of things like the Frigidaire EFIC123-SS or the Frigidaire EFIC117-SS. The Silonn SLIM40 is decent at best.

Silonn SLIM40 Review: Performance
Silonn SLIM40 Review: Capacity
- Produces up to 26 lbs of ice daily
- Internal storage: 1.8 lbs
The Silonn SLIM40’s headline specification promises 26 pounds over 24 hours, matching industry standards. Real-world conditions rarely achieve this maximum. Under typical kitchen conditions (70-75°F ambient, room temp water), expect roughly 20-24 pounds daily with continuous running.
The innovative 2.5L basket represents the primary differentiator. This spring-loaded expandable design holds up to 9 cups fully deployed, roughly double the 1.2-1.3L capacity in standard competitors. The basket expands downward as ice accumulates, maintaining easy scoop access regardless of fill level.
First batch timing hits the promised 6.5-minute mark. The machine produces 9 bullet-shaped cubes per cycle, dropping into the expanding basket. This translates to approximately 90 cubes hourly under optimal conditions. It is very similar to the Silonn SLIM09, and I forgot to add it in my chart.

Silonn SLIM40 Review: Ice Quality
- Bullet ice
- A bit softer, cloudy
In terms of ice types, you get bullet-shaped ice – the standard for air-cooled countertop machines in this price range. These hollow cylindrical cubes measure approximately 0.8-1.2 inches depending on size selection, with the characteristic bullet point on one end.
Bullet ice characteristics include rapid production but faster melting compared to solid cubes. The hollow interior means these cool drinks quickly initially but don’t maintain temperature as long as denser types. Clarity varies with water quality – tap water produces cloudy ice while filtered yields slightly clearer results.

Silonn SLIM40 Review: Energy and Water Consumption
- Normal water and energy consumption
I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Silonn SLIM40 draws approximately 120-150 watts during active production, cycling between higher draw during freezing and lower during harvest.
Water consumption is as usual, producing 100 pounds requires approximately 12 gallons, accounting for ice weight and evaporative losses. The Silonn SLIM40’s 1.8L tank means roughly 5 refills daily under maximum production scenarios.

Silonn SLIM40 Review: Noise Level
- Quiet operation
During active production, the compressor generates approximately 40-45 decibels – comparable to a standard refrigerator’s hum. This proves quieter than conversation (roughly 60dB) and substantially below kitchen appliances like blenders.
The ice harvest cycle introduces brief louder moments when cubes drop into the basket, creating a rattling sound. These 1-2 second events occur every 6 minutes during active production, punctuating the otherwise steady compressor drone.
Comparing to common noise sources provides context – the Silonn SLIM40 operates quieter than a dishwasher (45-50dB), similar to a refrigerator (40-45dB), and much quieter than a vacuum cleaner (70dB). Kitchen placement typically works as background noise blends with activities.

Silonn SLIM40 Review: Features
- Has self-cleaning feature
- Add water alert, ice full notification
The Silonn SLIM40’s standout feature remains its innovative 2.5L expandable ice basket. This spring-loaded mechanism automatically extends downward as ice accumulates, maintaining consistent scoop access while dramatically increasing storage capacity.
The LED touch control panel provides intuitive operation through color-coded status indicators – white during production, red for low water alerts, green when basket reaches capacity, and blue during self-cleaning. This four-color system eliminates confusing multi-button interfaces.
Self-cleaning feature activates through button press, running a cleaning cycle to help maintain ice quality and reduce mineral buildup. This feature appears standard across modern countertop ice makers. Users should still perform regular manual cleaning for optimal performance.
The unit includes standard bullet ice maker features – two ice size selections, transparent viewing window, ice scoop storage, and removable basket. Missing features compared to premium competitors include Wi-Fi connectivity, scheduling timers, water filtration systems, and refrigeration to keep harvested ice frozen.

Verdict
The Silonn SLIM40 enters a saturated market with one genuinely innovative feature – its 2.5L expandable ice basket. For people hate constant basket emptying during parties or high-usage periods, this capacity upgrade provides undeniable benefit over standard competitors.
