Silonn SLIM33 Review: Trusted Review by Technician in 2025

There’s no question that the Silonn SLIM33 delivers innovative features at a competitive price point in the budget ice maker segment – but whether the expanding basket justifies its position against established competitors depends entirely on how much you value that extra storage capacity. Let’s get on the train in the name of the Silonn SLIM33 review.

In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:

  • I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
  • I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
  • I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

PROS

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Convenient handle
  • Good pricing

CONS

  • Not the cheapest
  • Doesn’t have bigger storage

Silonn is a Hong Kong-based electronics manufacturer specializing in small home appliances. Founded with a commitment to creating solutions for easier and better living, the company has established itself in the countertop ice maker market alongside the most famous ones, like Frigidaire or Igloo.

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Price

  • Available to buy now
  • Costs $79 in the U.S market

The Silonn SLIM33 is available to buy now in the US, although it’s exclusively available through Amazon at launch. Perhaps the best place to pick it up is Amazon, where you can find it for $79, shipped and ready to go.

It’s a similar story with most Silonn products – they tend to stick to Amazon as their primary retail channel rather than spreading across multiple retailers. As usual with newer ice maker brands, you won’t find this stocked at big-box retailers like Best Buy or Target just yet.

In terms of direct competitors, the Frigidaire EFIC121 and the Euhomy IM-06 are worth weighing up, and the Silonn SLIM33 certainly stands up well against them – particularly if you value that expanded basket capacity. There is also the Igloo ICEB33, but it loses to the Silonn SLIM33 with no self-cleaning feature.

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Design

  • Top control board
  • Has a convenient handle

With its LED touch control panel and spring-loaded expanding basket, the Silonn SLIM33 offers more innovation in terms of its design than a lot of other ice makers at the same price – though we can imagine some users preferring the tried-and-tested simplicity of traditional fixed baskets. It’s all plastic of course, but it’s nicely done plastic, and it feels like it’ll handle regular countertop duty without issue.

The measurements you need to know about are 13.2 x 9.1 x 12 inches – dimensions largely dictated by the 2.5L expanding basket – and the machine weighs around 15-16 pounds (that’s roughly 7kg). It feels compact enough for most countertops, and isn’t going to significantly dominate your kitchen space or be difficult to relocate when needed.

We had what appears to be the standard black/gray version for review, though Silonn’s history with other models suggests additional color options may arrive eventually. This is perhaps not the ice maker to go for if you want something particularly eye-catching, but it’s refreshing to see an appliance that isn’t trying too hard to look futuristic or flashy.

Ice removal and water filling are handled via the top-opening lid, and Silonn has found room for a 1.8L water reservoir at the base of the unit. You wouldn’t expect any waterproofing on an ice maker at this price, and indeed the manual warns against water exposure to the electrical components and emphasizes proper ventilation around the rear cooling fan.

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Build

  • Silonn has decent durability

The construction quality of the Silonn SLIM33 sits in that familiar territory where budget manufacturers have landed – adequate plastic components that do the job without inspiring tremendous confidence. Based on my experience with the broader Silonn lineup and similar ice makers in this price bracket, you’re looking at food-grade plastics that meet safety standards but don’t exactly scream “heirloom appliance.”

With more than 200 reviews on Amazon, it seems the Silonn SLIM33 has a decent durability, the same as the previous Silonn SLIM27. I will need at least five more months to complete my one-year testing of the Silonn SLIM33, but I believe that with careful maintenance, the appliance can last for many years.

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Performance

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Capacity

  • Produces up to 26 lbs of ice daily
  • Internal storage: 1.3 lbs

The 2.5L expandable basket fitted inside the Silonn SLIM33 doesn’t offer much of a speed upgrade over the standard 1.2L baskets that we see in most budget ice makers, but it’s still going to do everything you need it to do for ice production – including handling parties that are on the demanding side.

Along with the basket you’re looking at 26 pounds of daily production capacity and a 1.8L water reservoir (9 cubes produced every 6-8 minutes if you’re running continuously). We’d definitely go for models with the larger water tanks if you plan on extended use, but of course the Silonn SLIM33 already includes that feature.

So to say, the Silonn SLIM33 has the same capacity as other countertop bullet ice makers, but it offers a more convenient way to store extra ice. This reduces the chance of forgetting to empty the basket and helps maximize its daily production. There is some need to empty the basket every 3-4 hours when it comes to continuous operation, but not so frequently that it spoils the user experience to any great degree.

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Ice Quality

  • Bullet ice
  • A bit softer, cloudy

The bullet-shaped ice fitted to the Silonn SLIM33 isn’t going to win any best-in-class awards, and while it’s not terrible, it’s certainly about average for the category as a whole. That’s not to say the machine can’t make some really good ice, because it can, but the bullets don’t always stand up to scrutiny (especially when compared to nugget or clear ice).

You get two size options, which can come in handy for different drinks and uses, but there’s no nugget texture here, and the hollow center means faster melting than solid cubes. The bullet shape itself is fairly standard – cylindrical with a rounded tip and hollow center.

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Energy and Water Consumption

  • Normal water and energy consumption

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The 170W compressor in the Silonn SLIM33 consumes around 4 kilowatt-hours over 24 hours of continuous use, and if you’re not constantly making ice but rather using it intermittently then the monthly electricity cost drops to around $4-7.

Water consumption is respectable enough at around 12 gallons per 100 pounds of ice, and the 1.8L tank means you won’t be refilling constantly during use (about 3-4 hours between refills).

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Noise Level

  • Quiet operation

The Silonn SLIM33 claims operation below 35-45 dB in the specifications, comparable to a working refrigerator. However, independent testing of similar Silonn models suggests the reality sits closer to 45 dB during active ice production – roughly equivalent to the maximum marketing volume.

It isn’t the quietest countertop ice maker in the market, but it’s certainly not the worst. Normally, countertop nugget ice makers are louder.

Silonn SLIM33 Review: Features

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Add water alert, ice full notification

The machine comes with LED touch controls on board, with four color-coded status indicators wrapped around it. It’s not our favorite control interface, and there’s perhaps a bit too much going on with the multiple colors, like the separate indicators for each status rather than a simple display. Silonn ice makers have their strengths, but interface design isn’t necessarily one of them.

Self-cleaning isn’t yet standard on every budget ice maker, but we’re pretty close to that point. If automated cleaning matters to you, then the Silonn SLIM33 will be able to handle it, activated by holding the clean button for 5 seconds. The expanding basket represents the main selling point – as ice production increases, the basket descends to accommodate more cubes, holding up to 9 cups compared to the standard 5 cups. In short, you get a decent feature set for your money with this machine.

Verdict

There’s no doubt that the Silonn SLIM33 gives you a countertop ice maker with innovative features at a competitive price in the budget segment – and the expanding basket perhaps is the reason why you should buy this ice maker.
