Silonn is a relatively young player in the home appliance market, emerging as one of the many Chinese manufacturers that have rapidly seized Amazon’s attention in recent years. Together with Euhomy, I consider the Silonn nugget ice makers to be the best budget ones you can buy.

The Silonn SLIM24 is simply just a revised model of the Silonn SLIM17, and as we all know, it will completely replace the older model soon. Luckily, at a cheaper launching price, we can expect the Silonn SLIM24 to be a best deal one day, just not today.
The Silonn SLIM24 has kept the fundamental nugget ice making process that enthusiasts love, including the soft, chewable texture that was a major improvement over traditional bullet ice makers. It is supposed to compete against the Euhomy IM-12, and Silonn usually tries to offer more color variants in order to have an unique selling point.
Everything else remains the same between the Silonn SLIM24 and the previous SLIM17, to the point that if you read the previous Ice Artisan’s review, you can skip this article completely. The Silonn SLIM24 starts at $179, for both black and blue versions. At the time of writing, it means the Silonn SLIM24 costs a bit higher than its predecessor.
One thing I must remind you, all modern budget nugget ice makers borrow from the very core of the Frigidaire Gallery EFIC201, with a different, compact design.

With a predominantly plastic construction, Silonn has opted for affordability over premium materials for the Silonn SLIM24’s chassis, giving it a functional, if somewhat basic, countertop presence. It’s very similar to the Silonn SLIM17.
When combined with its transparent viewing window and compact footprint, it amounts to a practical design that won’t win aesthetic awards but gets the job done. The machine measures 12.5″ W x 9.9″ D x 14.5″ H, making it compact enough to fit on crowded countertops without dominating the space.
There are two color variations for you to choose. Black models blend into darker countertops reasonably well, while the Blue option adds a pop of color that some users appreciate. The Stainless Steel variant attempts to mimic premium aesthetics, but it seems Silonn discontinues this color options recently.
The transparent lid serves dual purposes – allowing you to monitor ice levels without opening the machine and providing a surprisingly clear view of the ice-making process. It’s functional rather than elegant, but considerably more practical than opaque designs that leave you guessing about ice levels.

- Silonn has decent durability
The ABS plastic used throughout the housing is the same grade found in many budget appliances – durable enough for normal use but prone to cracking if dropped or subjected to significant impacts. Given the decent durability of Silonn ice makers during years of my experience, I can tell the Silonn SLIM24 is more sturdy than the old Silonn SLIM17 and even the Euhomy IM-12, but will it last longer? Hard to tell.
After all, the responsiveness of the customer support from Silonn is good, and you can always buy extra protection for the ice maker, making the Silonn SLIM24 a safe choice. Simply, not on the same Frigidaire and Igloo level, but 2-3 levels above all Chinese no-name ice makers.

With a 33-pound daily production capacity, I had high hopes for continuous operation without overheating, but I was prepared for the more-than-likely event that it would struggle during marathon ice-making sessions. Thankfully, the Silonn SLIM24 provided much more reliability than I expected.
The first batch timing is genuinely impressive. Starting from a cold machine with fresh water, the Silonn SLIM24 delivers its first load of nugget ice in about 6 minutes. That’s considerably faster than the 10-15 minute wait you’d get from premium models like the GE Profile Opal 2.0, and significantly quicker than the 20-minute averages common among older ice maker designs.
The storage bin holds approximately 1.8 pounds of nugget ice at capacity. It’s not the largest basket in the budget category – the GE Opal 2.0 holds 3 pounds, and some newer models manage 3.3 pounds – but it’s adequate for small to medium households without constant attention to emptying.

Still, unlike bullet ice makers that produce hard, cylindrical cubes, the Silonn SLIM24 creates soft, porous nugget ice that will improve your experience. It cools water a lot faster than common bullet ices.

Moreover, the feature set is far from bare-bones, it’s just deliberately streamlined to essentials. The Silonn SLIM24 includes one-touch operation with a simple ICE/CLEAN button, a transparent viewing window, and color-coded indicator lights (red for low water, green for ice full).
The automatic self-cleaning mode is genuinely useful. Hold the ICE/CLEAN button for 5 seconds, and the machine runs a 15-minute cleaning cycle that helps prevent mineral buildup and keeps ice tasting fresh. It’s a perfectly adequate self-cleaning system that works seamlessly within the Silonn SLIM24.
The control interface consists of a single ICE/CLEAN button beneath the viewing window, with LED indicators providing “ICE FULL” and “ADD WATER” status alerts. Press the button briefly to initiate ice production; hold for 5 seconds to activate the self-cleaning cycle.
