Silonn SLIM09 Review: Trusted Review by Technician in 2025

It seems Silonn is copying the method of Frigidaire and Euhomy by releasing tons of countertop bullet ice makers in the same price range. Most of them will be named as “Silonn ice maker” and the Silonn SLIM09 isn’t an exception. My Silonn SLIM09 review is for people who want a review for a specific model, but for most others, I believe it’s not much different from the review of the Silonn SLIM01.

In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:

  • I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
  • I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
  • I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

PROS

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Great pricing
  • Has a convenient handle

CONS

  • Mixed durability

Silonn is a relatively young player in the home appliance market, emerging as one of the many Chinese manufacturers that have rapidly captured Amazon’s attention in recent years. While the brand lacks the decades-long heritage of companies like Frigidaire or GE, it has managed to carve out a niche by offering affordable ice-making solutions that appeal to budget-conscious consumers.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Price

  • Available to buy now
  • Costs $79 in the U.S market

The Silonn SLIM09 is designed to be a revision of the first Silonn SLIM01, bringing the convenient handle into the popular countertop ice maker. It is superseded by the Silonn SLIM35, but it is still available to buy at the moment.

For the price, the Silonn SLIM09 costs $79, meaning it is $10 cheaper than the average countertop ice maker in 2025, notably the Euhomy IM-06 and Frigidaire EFIC123-SS. It’s meant to compete against the Igloo ICEB26HN, at a much better pricing point.

It’s also easier to find than the Silonn SLIM01, and being the newer model, I always recommend my readers choose the Silonn SLIM09 instead. Honestly, Silonn has become a reliable name for anyone looking to buy affordable yet feature-rich countertop ice makers.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Durability

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Design

  • Top control board
  • Has a convenient handle

The Silonn SLIM09 is a little on the small side for an ice maker, but not prohibitively so for countertop placement. With dimensions of 11 x 9 x 11 inches there are a few more compact ice makers than it, and while it’s fairly light at 14.77 pounds, again there are lighter options out there.

I sometimes had trouble with the small water reservoir capacity during extended ice-making sessions, and I’ve got a fairly average-sized household, so people with larger families will probably find themselves refilling this frequently if they want continuous operation.

The ice maker has a plastic housing and a transparent lid. On the front panel there’s a simple control interface with LED indicators, there’s a removable ice basket inside, and a drainage plug on the bottom-rear edge of the unit.

I’d normally point out how a transparent lid is useful for monitoring ice production, but I actually had concerns with this one – the lid feels thin and flimsy, and it seems like it could crack if you’re not careful. It felt as though it should have been made from thicker plastic for durability, but this wasn’t possible, presumably to keep costs down. Still, the transparency does let you check ice levels without releasing cold air, which is convenient during rapid production cycles.

If like most people, you place your ice maker on a counter with ventilation in mind, you’re also going to need significant clearance around the unit’s sides and back. The air vents pull heat away from the compressor, so blocking them even partially will reduce efficiency and could overheat the machine.

The Silonn SLIM09 has a carry handle – it’s a simple integrated design on the top of the unit that makes portability straightforward. The handle feels sturdy and doesn’t wobble when you lift the ice maker, though at nearly 15 pounds when empty (and more when there’s water inside), you’ll want a firm grip.

The back of the ice maker has vented panels for cooling as well as the drainage port: it’s functional rather than decorative, which is something I frequently notice for budget ice makers.

The Silonn SLIM09 bears more than a passing resemblance to the Euhomy ice maker, especially thanks to this overall form factor and control layout, and that doesn’t feel accidental – these budget Chinese manufacturers often share design templates and component suppliers, so seeing similarities isn’t surprising.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Build

  • Silonn has decent durability

The materials throughout are predominantly plastic: the housing, water reservoir, ice basket, and even the interior lining are all plastic components. There’s metal inside where it counts (compressor, refrigerant lines, evaporator rods), but everything you touch and see is plastic.

The plastic feels thinner than what I encounter on Frigidaire models at the same price point. The ice basket in particular has that lightweight, slightly flexible quality that makes me wonder about its resistance to cracking if someone drops it or handles it roughly while full of ice. The water reservoir is similarly thin-walled, though it’s designed to stay in place rather than being constantly removed and reinstalled.

Overall, my experience tells me that the Silonn SLIM09 has decent durability – not as good as some Frigidaire models, but still solid and reliable for its price. Based on Amazon customer reviews, durability of the Silonn SLIM09 is average, and if you can afford some extra protection plans, you’re good to go.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Performance

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Capacity

  • Produces up to 26 lbs of ice daily
  • Internal storage: 1.2 lbs

The Silonn SLIM09 has a 1.2-liter water tank paired with a daily ice production capacity of 26 pounds. That combination defines its performance envelope – adequate for small to medium households but not sufficient for commercial applications or large gatherings without constant attention to refilling.

The first batch timing is genuinely impressive. Starting from a cold machine with fresh water, the Silonn SLIM09 delivers its first 9 bullet-shaped ice cubes in about 6 minutes. That’s among the faster first-batch times I’ve seen in the budget countertop category, matching or beating most competitors at this price point. Subsequent batches maintain that 6-minute cycle time as long as you’re removing ice before the basket fills to capacity.

This chart will compare the first batch speed for all Silonn countertop ice makers that make bullet ice. As you can see, the Silonn SLIM09 is about the middle of the chart, a little bit behind the newer models like the Silonn SLIM33 or Silonn SLIM27.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Ice Quality

  • Bullet ice
  • A bit softer, cloudy

The Silonn SLIM09 produces bullet ice in two selectable sizes, and I found the quality to be pretty typical for budget countertop ice makers – not exceptional, but certainly adequate for everyday beverage cooling.

The small bullet setting creates ice pieces approximately 0.8 inches long. These smaller bullets work particularly well for rapid drink chilling – they have more surface area relative to volume, so they cool beverages quickly, though that same characteristic means they also melt faster. They’re ideal for sodas, iced tea, or any situation where you want immediate temperature drop and don’t mind some dilution.

The large bullet setting produces pieces around 1.2 inches long that provide longer-lasting cooling with noticeably slower melt rates. I found these better suited for cocktails, whiskey on ice, or slow-sipping situations where you want your drink to stay cold for 30-45 minutes without becoming too watered down. The size difference is substantial enough that it genuinely affects drink experience rather than being a token feature.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Energy and Water Consumption

  • Normal water and energy consumption

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Silonn SLIM09 draws 150 watts during operation at standard 120-volt household current. I calculated energy consumption per 100 pounds of ice production by working through the operational math: producing the rated 26 pounds takes 24 hours of continuous operation at 150W, which equals 3.6 kilowatt-hours per day. Scaling that proportionally to 100 pounds means approximately 92 hours of operation time, consuming roughly 13.8 kWh of electricity in total.

Water consumption follows straightforward physics principles since ice is approximately 92% water by volume with some loss to air content. Producing 100 pounds of ice requires roughly 12 gallons of water as base input. The Silonn SLIM09’s water efficiency sits at about average for bullet ice makers in this category, with approximately 10-15% loss to evaporation through the vents, drainage during self-cleaning cycles, and the small amounts that cling to internal surfaces between cycles.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Noise Level

  • Quiet operation

The noise level during ice production is one of the Silonn SLIM09’s standout features – it’s specified at less than 40 decibels, and in my experience with this model and comparable units, that specification is accurate to within 2-3 decibels.

To provide reference points for understanding what 40dB actually represents in everyday situations: it’s quieter than a typical home refrigerator (which generally operates at 40-43dB), roughly equivalent to a whisper in a quiet library (30-35dB range), and significantly quieter than normal conversational volume (around 60dB). The comparison to a working refrigerator is particularly apt since both are continuous compressor-based appliances, but the Silonn SLIM09 actually runs quieter than most refrigerators despite performing a more intensive ice-making operation.

Silonn SLIM09 Review: Features

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Add water alert, ice full notification

This is another Silonn countertop ice maker that offers the precious self-cleaning feature, activated via button hold. The self-cleaning capability is the one feature that adds genuine value beyond bare-minimum operation. By pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds, you initiate an automated 30-minute cleaning cycle. During this cycle, the system actively pumps water through all internal components, flushing mineral deposits from the evaporator rods, preventing bacterial growth in water passages, and removing any residual flavors or odors that might have accumulated. This cleaning function is more thorough than what many competing budget ice makers offer – some competitors only offer passive drainage without active circulation.

You get a straightforward physical button interface on the front panel with power on/off, ice size selection (toggle between small and large bullets), and self-cleaning mode activation via button hold. LED indicator lights display current operating status and provide alerts for two key conditions: “Add Water” when the reservoir runs low, and “Ice Full” when the storage basket reaches capacity and production needs to pause.
