Euhomy IM-16 Review: Trusted Review by Technician in 2025

The Euhomy IM-16 is the best countertop nugget ice maker Euhomy has ever made, copying nearly 1:1 with the top choice Frigidaire EFIC255 at the moment. It is cheaper, yes, but it delivers a very different nugget ice quality that budget Euhomy ice makers struggle to do. Ok, time for a proper Euhomy IM-16 review, to see whether it’s worth the upgrade from a standard Euhomy IM-12 or Euhomy IM-15.

In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:

  • I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
  • I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
  • I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

Euhomy IM-16 Review

PROS

  • Better nugget ice
  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Still cheaper than competitors

CONS

  • A bit noisy

Euhomy might not be a household name like GE Appliances or Frigidaire, but this Chinese manufacturer has been quietly building a reputation in the portable ice maker market since 2019. With dedication and consistent product improvement, Euhomy has managed to snuck its way into the American hearts, thanks in large part to the success of its best-selling model, the Euhomy IM-06.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Price

  • Available to buy now
  • Costs $249 in the U.S market

The Euhomy IM-16 (officially you can’t find a known ice maker by its name, and Euhomy sometimes called this appliance as “HZB-15EN”, and I don’t know why) is the most powerful nugget ice maker you can buy from this brand, still at half the price you would spend on a GE Profile Opal 2.0. Fact is, if you’ve been craving something different than the cloudier and harder nugget ice from the previous Euhomy IM-10 or Euhomy IM-12, you should consider the Euhomy IM-16.

The Euhomy IM-16 comes at $249, and you should look for keywords like “Euhomy 44lbs/day countertop nugget ice maker”. Yes, you’re paying more for an appliance that makes ice, but while not quite this cheap, the Euhomy IM-16 is still a more affordable option in comparison with the Frigidaire EFIC255. As a result, it’s the cheapest nugget ice maker with such high daily capacity.

It often goes on sale, and as a reviewer, I’ve come to understand just how aggressively Euhomy is trying to win market share. For deal hunters, I recommend checking my website first, sometimes the Euhomy IM-16 drops below $200, making it one of the best budget-friendly nugget ice makers available.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Durability

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Design

  • Use front control board
  • Bigger window lid, with LED
  • Has steel texture in its finish

Measuring 13.98 x 9.84 x 14.96 inches, the Euhomy IM-16 is compact for a 44lb daily capacity nugget ice maker. Putting the Euhomy IM-16 side-by-side with a Frigidaire unit and you can see how compact the Euhomy ice maker is. For people who’re looking for a small countertop ice maker, the Euhomy IM-16 is a good option.

It’s still heavier than the earlier Euhomy IM-12, weighing in at 24 pounds. But then again, nugget ice makers typically aren’t designed with portability in mind—unlike the more compact IM-12. Euhomy doesn’t seem to be trying to make the IM-16 stand out from the competition, offering it in only one color: black. It seems the company is taking a cautious approach to this market segment and isn’t investing in additional color options at this stage.

Folks who caught a glimpse at the Euhomy IM-16 always wanted to know what ice maker I was using. It is stylish enough than the average countertop ice maker at $89. The control board is quite similar to the Frigidaire EFIC255, to the point I believe both are coming out from a same factory.

The Euhomy IM-16 has a front-access design, but it isn’t the drawer style like the GE Profile Opal 2.0 that slides out horizontally. Taking ice out of the Euhomy IM-16 will be a much easier task, but the design means it is capable of holding less ice.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Build

  • Euhomy has decent durability

The Euhomy IM-16 is a relatively new nugget ice maker, released just a year ago, so it’s still too early to draw solid conclusions about its long-term durability. Based on my experience with Euhomy products, durability can be hit or miss. However, in most cases, the ice maker will last for years, provided it’s properly maintained.

However, I can understand why the Euhomy IM-16 is priced lower than its competitor, the Frigidaire EFIC255. It’s lighter and doesn’t feel as durable. At this price range, many countertop ice makers incorporate metal parts for added strength, but the Euhomy IM-16 is made entirely of plastic. While I don’t necessarily have an issue with that, I do question how well it will hold up over time.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Performance

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Capacity

  • Produces up to 44 lbs of ice daily
  • Internal storage: 2 lbs

The Euhomy IM-16 will elevate the average job of the Euhomy IM-15 to a higher level, delivering up to 44 pounds of nugget ice per day. It has better average speed, and it can hold up to 2 pounds of ice at the same time.

However, we all know that daily production capacity is theoretical. The Euhomy IM-16 essentially shares the same specs as the Igloo ICEB33, which is rated to produce 33 pounds of ice per day. While the Euhomy IM-16, as a nugget ice maker, can produce more ice simultaneously, its compact size limits how much ice it can actually hold at once.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Ice Quality

  • Nugget ice
  • Better than average Euhomy nugget

The Euhomy IM-16 clearly uses a much better ice-making mechanism than, say, the Euhomy IM-10. It applies stronger pressure during the process, resulting in nugget ice that is noticeably softer and higher in quality compared to its budget counterpart. It still doesn’t have the opaque white attribute from the more expensive devices, but it is a lot better to chew.

The nugget ice produced is genuinely soft and chewable, with what Euhomy calls “authentic flavors” – marketing speak for ice that doesn’t impart any plastic taste. Customer reviews also praise the nugget ice quality of the Euhomy IM-16, saying it is the best for spending $250 for an ice maker.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Energy and Water Consumption

  • Normal water and energy consumption

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Euhomy IM-16 has an impressive rated power at 130 watts, meaning it takes less to produce more than an Euhomy IM-06. I must say it is pretty good for such a nugget ice maker.

In my article “Does an ice maker use a lot of water?”, I explained why you shouldn’t worry about the water consumption of an ice maker. Typically, an air-cooled countertop ice maker doesn’t use water on anything else, and the difference between models is negligible.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Noise Level

  • Quiet operation

Interestingly, the Euhomy IM-16 is quite noisy during operation, and it’s not just my unit. Other reviews have confirmed the same issue. I measured the noise level at around 52 decibels under normal conditions, which is fairly standard. However, at times, it spikes up to 70 decibels, which can be noticeably loud in a quiet environment.

I understand that the auger mechanism naturally generates some noise, but it seems like something in the Euhomy IM-16 may be amplifying it when the auger is rotating. I’ll update this review if I discover anything new about the cause.

Euhomy IM-16 Review: Features

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Add water alert, ice full notification

At a $250 price point, the self-cleaning feature is practically a must-have. It serves a simple but important function: flushing out ice debris from the water lines and internal components. When used with vinegar or a cleaning solution, it also helps prevent mineral buildup and mold growth inside the ice maker.

The Euhomy IM-16 still has simple notifications to alert you when to add more water or take ice out for next nugget ice production. It includes one simple feature to turn on or off the light, which serves as a premium feature for an expensive ice maker.

Verdict

If you’re thinking of paying extra for a bigger nugget ice maker, instead of the budget Euhomy IM-12, the Euhomy IM-16 is a solid option. I prefer the Frigidaire EFIC255, but the Euhomy IM-16 can save you a few dollars for the same daily capacity, so it is good.
