Euhomy IM-12 Review: Trusted Review by Technician in 2025

The Euhomy IM-12 impresses me that I could save more than half the price of a GE Profile Opal 2.0, chewing fresh nugget ices in very quick time. Pitched as a nugget ice maker, the Euhomy IM-12 delivers a different experience than its brother Euhomy IM-06, which is certainly something ice lovers can’t forget. So, get ready to my Euhomy IM-12 review, which is currently one of my picks for the best nugget ice maker in 2025.

In Ice Artisan, I only review the ice makers that I had used or repaired. So I can guarantee that:

  • I give you honest review (both pros and cons) of an ice maker. No hidden deal behind the website.
  • I share my technician’s point of view, so I focus not only on the performance, but also the build of an ice maker.
  • I compile an ice maker ranking list (coming soon) so you can compare all ice makers easily.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Price

  • Available to buy now
  • Costs $189 in the U.S market

After years of testing working design from the first Euhomy IM-01 to the Euhomy IM-10, it seems Euhomy will settle down with the design similar to their most popular appliance – the Euhomy IM-06. The Euhomy IM-12 inherits such design with convenient and sturdy handle, as well as multiple color options to pick from.

The Euhomy IM-12 starts at $189, cutting more than half the price of the GE Profile Opal 2.0 which is still the benchmark for a countertop nugget ice maker. It is the same as the Euhomy IM-15 that did the same job but with more common design of a nugget ice maker.

It is sold directly from Amazon, so you can add a protection plan for the ice maker if you want to ensure an unit that lasts longer for your home. Currently I think of this as the best budget ice maker in 2025, as it offers the valuable nugget ice at less than $200, something that big brands like Frigidaire can’t compete.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Durability

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Design

  • Use front control board
  • Bigger window lid
  • Has 2 color options

The Euhomy IM-12 has compact dimensions of 9.45 inches wide x 11.61 inches deep x 12.99 inches high and weighs 19.58 pounds. This makes it one of the more compact nugget ice makers available, taking up less counter space than competitors like the GE Profile Opal 2.0 or the Frigidaire EFIC255.

I’m not totally convinced by the Euhomy IM-12’s design at first, as every nugget ice maker before it copied the design of the GE Profile Opal 2.0, but the Euhomy IM-12 nails it with its compact size. You need to take ice out from top of the ice maker, so the Euhomy IM-12 needs to be the size of the Euhomy IM-06.

As a result, the Euhomy IM-12 is more a portable appliance than its competitor, filling a blank slot for people who want a mobile ice maker, perhaps for their RVs. If you’re looking for an ice maker that you can constantly bring it out of its place in kitchen, like an ice basket or something, the Euhomy IM-12 is a good option.

While the design of the Euhomy IM-12 is practical, it doesn’t offer the premium look you might expect after spending nearly $200 on an ice maker. Euhomy does attempt to appeal to more kitchen styles by offering multiple color options, from black to silver. Still, the overall appearance of the unit isn’t particularly luxurious or something you’d proudly show off.

Perhaps Euhomy saves the more premium design for their later units, like the Euhomy IM-15. However, its price is never as good as the Euhomy IM-12, thus affect sales.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Build

  • Euhomy has decent durability

The Euhomy IM-12 pretends to be a portable ice maker, so though it is well built, the housing is fully plastic. It contributes to its lightweight design and affordable price point, and it has decent durability. I don’t have a problem using the Euhomy IM-12, and my testing unit is well used for more than 3 years.

For the customer reviews, I found most are satisfied with the build quality of the Euhomy IM-12. Though Euhomy doesn’t have physical service centers and they work primarily on Amazon, the support is decent, I think the same as Igloo.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Performance

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Capacity

  • Produces up to 34 lbs of ice daily
  • Internal storage: 1.8 lbs

Even as a portable ice maker, the Euhomy IM-12 works very impressive with a daily capacity of 34 pounds, thanks to its very fast ice cycles. Normally it takes you 8-15 minutes for the first batch of ices, but the Euhomy IM-12 sometimes take just 6 minutes to ready to cool your drinks. It’s “cool”, right?

It also has a bigger storage than the Euhomy IM-10, by cutting the size of its water tank. It can only make ice from half the tank of an average nugget ice maker, so you need to fill in water more times. However, the Euhomy IM-12 can actually store more ices than its brother, while maintaining its compact profile.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Ice Quality

  • Nugget ice
  • Cloudier, a bit harder

The Euhomy IM-12 implements the same ice making mechanism as the Euhomy IM-10, and after disassembling the unit, I find both compressors to be similar. As a result, you can expect the nugget ice quality to be similar among Euhomy units.

That wasn’t for a lack of trying. I’ve tested and observed nugget ice for over 12 years, from no-name units to high-end models like Scotsman’s “Sonic-style” nugget ice. The nugget ice from the Euhomy IM-12 is noticeably harder and cloudier (it isn’t fully opaque white), mostly due to the lack of sufficient pressure during the ice-making process.

Still, people who want to save hundreds of dollars can enjoy the small and chewable nugget ices from Euhomy. It’s far from the best, but it is decent quality for an affordable price.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Energy and Water Consumption

  • Normal water and energy consumption

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. I measured the Euhomy IM-12 to have rated power at 150 watts, which is better than an Euhomy IM-06. It is quite impressive for a nugget ice maker to consume less power than a typical bullet ice maker.

However, the water consumption for a typical nugget ice maker will be a little higher than the bullet ice maker, because of more complex ice making mechanism. To produce 100 pounds of ice, the Euhomy IM-12 needs about 15 pounds of ice. You can read my article “Does an ice maker use a lot of water?” to know the reason why you shouldn’t worry about an ice maker’s water consumption, as most of them are air-cooled.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Noise Level

  • Quiet operation

The compact Euhomy IM-12 is a quiet ice maker, operating at just 43.5 decibels. It isn’t something extraordinary for an ice maker, as I wrote in “Do ice makers make a lot of noise?” In short, an ice maker is just like a refrigerator which makes little noise and vibration, nothing more.

For context, 43.5 dB is just the same as the noise level of a library. You won’t notice it is on or not, until the ices drop to the basket.

Euhomy IM-12 Review: Features

  • Has self-cleaning feature
  • Add water alert, ice full notification

The Euhomy IM-12 uses a front control board, but it simplifies a lot to make the front control board quite identical to the Euhomy IM-18. But still, the more expensive Euhomy IM-12 includes the valuable self-cleaning feature, which I deem as the only necessary additional feature for a countertop ice maker. Even when you only use bottled water, a self-cleaning function can flush out the ice debris and water staying in the pipe of the ice maker. It makes the regular ice maker cleaning task much easier.

Just like the most affordable bullet ice makers, the Euhomy IM-12 must have the notification for two situations: when you need to fill in more water so it can make more ice, and when you need to take ice out of the basket, so the ice maker can continue working (again).

Verdict

The Euhomy IM-12 is the most affordable nugget ice maker you can buy from a company that actively improves an ice maker design, not just some random distributors selling no-name ice makers on e-commerce websites.

Not only that, the Euhomy IM-12 works like a charm, making nugget ice that is chewable, much softer than bullet ice.
