Euhomy could be the only brand to keep up with new technology in the ice maker world, delivering actual changes in recent years. The Euhomy HZB-15 went on sale in mid-2024, with the base model at $199 delivering features that make you wonder how they’ve done it at this price. Smart app control with voice assistant integration typically starts at $400+ on competing nugget ice makers, yet here it is standard.
It can be considered as the cheaper GE Profile Opal 2.0, and considering it as cheap as half the best nugget ice maker, and just a little bit more than the price of the Euhomy IM-12, I can say for sure it will appear in the revision of my lists next year.
This is a lot of ice maker for not very much cash. The market context makes the Euhomy HZB-15’s positioning even more impressive. Most ice makers under $200 still produce hard bullet ice that melts instantly and waters down drinks. Actual nugget ice – the soft, chewable kind popularized by Sonic – has traditionally been locked behind premium pricing.
The Euhomy HZB-15 splits the difference brilliantly. You’re getting genuine nugget ice production, app control, voice assistant compatibility, and a 40 lbs daily capacity that actually exceeds the GE Profile Opal’s 38 lbs output. There are still reasons to step up to the GE Profile Opal 2.0, but that’s for another review.

The Euhomy HZB-15 measures 11.8 x 9.1 x 13.1 inches, making it noticeably more compact than the GE Profile Opal 2.0’s bulkier 16.5 x 10.5 x 17.2-inch footprint. That’s a significant space advantage on crowded countertops. The unit weighs around 20 lbs, light enough to move easily yet substantial enough to feel stable during operation.
The back is plastic, yes, but Euhomy has made smart design choices that compensate. The transparent top viewing window isn’t just aesthetic – it’s genuinely useful for monitoring ice production without opening anything. The interior LED light illuminates the process beautifully, turning ice-making into something almost mesmerizing to watch. My kids spent the first evening gathered around it like it was a television.
The ice scoop holder on the back is particularly pleasing. Rather than having a loose scoop cluttering your counter or disappearing into drawers, it hangs neatly on the machine itself. Small touch, big impact on daily usability. The viewing window sits at a comfortable angle, and the control panel is intuitive enough that I didn’t need to reference the manual even once.
The Euhomy HZB-15’s smart features deserve mention here because they genuinely enhance the experience. App control means you can start ice production remotely – useful when you’re heading home and want ice ready upon arrival. Alexa integration works reliably; saying “Alexa, turn on the ice maker” actually works, which isn’t guaranteed with budget smart appliances. The indicator lights are clear even in bright kitchen lighting, and the self-cleaning button activates with a simple 5-second hold.
The 1.6 lb ice basket isn’t enormous, but it’s perfectly sized for the compact footprint. The removable design makes emptying and cleaning effortless. The 1.1L water reservoir fills quickly from the top, and the wide opening means you won’t spill water everywhere during refills. These are small ergonomic victories that add up to excellent daily usability.

The 1-year warranty is industry standard, and Euhomy actually honors it, which isn’t guaranteed even with established brands. Their technical support team is accessible and helpful, a notable advantage over some premium brands with frustrating customer service experiences.
The compressor and internal components appear to be quality Chinese-manufactured parts. There’s nothing inherently problematic about this approach, many “American” appliances now manufacture overseas with identical supply chains. What matters is quality control, and Euhomy’s failure rates fall within acceptable ranges for the price category.

As a nugget countertop ice maker, the Euhomy HZB-15 is as good as its predecessor, the Euhomy IM-16. The machine produces its first batch of nugget ice in 7 minutes, remarkably fast for this technology. You should remember Euhomy is the best brand at producing nugget ice the fastest.
Running the machine continuously for 8 hours produced 14 lbs of ice at 70°F ambient temperature, extrapolating to 42 lbs over 24 hours under optimal conditions. The 1.1L water tank requires refills every 2-3 hours during heavy use, but the app notifications make this painless: your phone alerts you when water runs low.

The Euhomy HZB-15 comes with nugget ice production, which is more desirable than the bullet ice found in most sub-$300 ice makers. Nugget ice is the soft, aerated style popularized by Sonic Drive-In and coveted by ice enthusiasts. Getting this ice type at $200 is the Euhomy’s fundamental achievement.
However, in comparison with both the Euhomy IM-12 and Euhomy IM-16 before it, the Euhomy HZB-15 does a much better job. Yes, it is softer than even the IM-16, with a porous, chewable texture that’s immediately satisfying.

I wrote an article of “How much electricity does an ice maker use?” to give you a free calculator to find out whether you are spending more on your ice maker or not. The Euhomy HZB-15 draws approximately 129 watts during active ice production, running at roughly 3 kWh per 24-hour period during continuous operation. That’s excellent for a nugget ice maker. To put it in perspective: producing 100 lbs of ice consumes approximately 7.5 kWh of energy.

During testing in a typical kitchen environment, I measured approximately 47 dB during active production and 35 dB during idle periods: measurements taken from 3 feet away, which represents realistic countertop placement. That’s noticeably quieter than a dishwasher (50-60 dB) and significantly quieter than the NewAir AI-420, which generate customer complaints about fan noise carrying into other rooms.

The dedicated Euhomy app pairs quickly via Bluetooth, connecting your ice maker to your home network within minutes.
The app interface is straightforward and functional. You can start or stop ice production remotely, monitor water levels and ice basket status in real-time, and receive push notifications when intervention is needed. It’s not revolutionary functionality, but it works reliably and adds genuine convenience when you can start ice production while driving home.
Voice assistant integration works excellently. “Alexa, turn on the ice maker” triggers production immediately, with similar functionality through Google Assistant. The integration is stable and responsive, which isn’t guaranteed with budget smart appliances. This matters if you’re already invested in smart home ecosystems; the Euhomy HZB-15 integrates seamlessly rather than feeling like an afterthought.
The self-cleaning function deserves particular praise. Hold the ice/clean button for 5 seconds, and the machine runs a 15-minute cycle that flushes the system thoroughly. This feature works as advertised, no complicated procedures. Weekly cleaning maintains ice quality and prevents mineral buildup effectively. The process is simple: drain, add cleaning solution or fresh water, activate cleaning mode, drain again, rinse. Done.
Ice and water indicators illuminate clearly when the basket fills or the tank needs refilling. These sensors function reliably in most units, automatically stopping production when appropriate. The removable top cover allows access for deeper cleaning when needed, though regular use of the self-cleaning function makes this rarely necessary. The interior LED light serves both practical and aesthetic purposes, as monitoring ice production becomes oddly entertaining with proper illumination.
